RP: Savannah and Brian
Who: Savannah and Brian
Where: Safe house
When: Sunday, February 24, 2013
Summary: Savannah talks to the new guy

Sunday dinners were not exactly Sunday dinner when there was no kitchen, no heat, no real dinner, and no family since most of the family was flying across country at the moment The fact didn't depress Savannah. It only meant that she had to redirect her attentions.

She spent the time playing with the kids, talking to just about everyone. There were a few exception, because she didn't consider talking to either of the Hammond twins as real talking. They just said polite things that usually meant that they thought she was an idiot. She wasn't, and she knew very well what they thought. It didn't stop her from trying, though, or from speaking to Travis who was very nice.

There was one person she hadn't really spoken to. The man had barely just arrived, and things were not as organized as they used to be. It was the problem when you had thirty people living in a room. Not being the subtle type, she followed him when he went outside.

"I wouldn't walk you too far. There are plenty of booby traps," she said with a smile. "I'm Savannah, not that they haven't told you, but I know it can be a bit overwhelming trying to remember everyone's names. If you're gotten over the whole 'I'm in a different dimension' thing. Are you? I wouldn't blame you if you weren't. It took me forever. Well not forever, because we're here, but a good month, a suicide attempt and turning into water. It was all really eventful so I wouldn't blame you if you were still stuck on that part. And I'll stop now and you can answer any part of that you like. They tell me I talk a lot, but with the people around here, if I don't talk, every discussion would feel like a police interrogation, not that I've ever done one, but I can imagine. It'd be like every discussion between these guys."

"So, I've been told." Brian hadn't gone far at all, really. Just out to the porch. Leaning on one of the posts holding up the porch, he was just taking stock of...things. Chuckling, he shook his head and shot her a smile. "I've got a good head for names, especially for the pretty girls. I haven't forgotten yours...Savannah."

The way she talked reminded him a little of Jesse. God, hours and hours spent over that computer, listening to Jesse go over all the possibilities for fixing up the Supra, right down to the paint job. "Still looks like the California I know. I'll have to get back to you on the 'different dimension thing'." He looked at her for a moment, assessing. "Why suicide? You don't strike me as the 'nothing to live for' type. I mean, only been here a few days, but there isn't much to do other than watch people, you know?"

"And you will be told over and over and over. We are a bit repetitive, but none of us wants to see more people die. I've reached my quota for a lifetime." Even as she said it, she knew that it would happen again, but it didn't mean that she'd have to like it. "Why thank you," she answered with a small courtesy an a smile. "You can call me pretty all you like unless Marty is around. He gets a little jealous, and it'd be such a bad form if the man in charge punched you for just being a man."

She looked around. "This doesn't know look like the California I pictured, but then I'm from Texas and moved to Memphis. We don't really see much snow." Savannah moved closer. "When we arrived, it was all agents and me. A few FBI, some NCIS, one CIA and me. We were brought on a base and told this incredible story, except that nothing made sense. No one had powers we could see. I had to believe this story based on their say so. Everyone else believe it because it's what they do. They follow orders. I...I found the idea that it was real worse than the possibility that they had kidnapped. Was was a twenty-one year old virgin going to do with a bunch of old men and women for the rest of her life? Going home wasn't really a possibility back then. There were no young people. There was nothing and I couldn't see the possibility of having the important things in life: a husband and children, because really at the end of the day, no matter what name we use on any given day, in which dimension we end up in, those are the important things. Do you have a family back home?"

"He'd have to land the punch, first," Brian said with a laugh and a grin. "But, for the sake of chivalry, I'll keep the flattery to whenever you follow me out here alone," he added with a wink.

"I grew up in Barstow out in the desert east of here. Worked in L.A. for a bit after that. Did a lot of driving up and down the coast on my off time. Lots more to California than beaches and sun." He smirked. "We just don't like to admit it much." It was colder than he liked up here. Brian was all about the beach and asphalt. But, in a weird way, it was home...even if it didn't feel like it without Mia and Dom and the baby. Or, anyone else from the crew. Brian was itching to head south and look people up. But, whether there was truly another version of him out there, or he was still in his own 'dimension', L.A. was about the worst place he could be seen in right now.

Listening to her story, he just watched her in silence. "What changed your mind about all of this? That it was worth giving life a shot again?" he asked when she'd finished, only to shrug dismissively at her question. "Of a sort. It's not your normal family, but yeah, there are some people back home I'd call familly."

"You'll be surprised at what he can do," she answered, and she knew that people would think that she was just supporting her husband, but she was also the only one who knew what he could really do. "Did I mention that we both were trained by a SEAL for months? But I think that's a great compromise. I can stalk you and you can tell me how good looking I am, even if I'm all swollen up," she said, touching her stomach.

Savannah nodded. "I'm starting to see that. Marty is always going on about the waves and the surf. Travis is another LA boy. I get to hear all about how great this town is." G didn't talk about it as much, but he enjoyed the city.

"I jumped from a building and turned into water. After that, they started to babysit me, upset me and turned into fire. It was hard not to accept that this wasn't happening, and I am a very practical person. If I couldn't have what I wanted, I would have what everyone else had. So I put my personal life to the side and decided that I'd be the best darn agent, trained with a SEAL, did extra training, learned everything there was to learn from the people who knew it best, and then the darnest thing happened. I found a family. I found a husband, and I have two beautiful girls and a boy on the way." She laughed. "Oh Brian, I have a dad, who's really not my dad, who comes with a brother he didn't know he had. He's not married to a man we call his husband, who has kids I call my siblings. I'm not related to any of them, but they are my family and G is my dad just as much as my biological dad is. Just because it's not normal, it doesn't make it less of a family."

"I like surprises." Brian had never been one to hang all his skills out for the world to see from the start. Most of his cockiness came from knowing he had a few aces up his sleeve he wasn't letting on about at all. He didn't follow up her statement with further boasting. "I should probably warn you, my buddy says I always get in trouble when there's a woman involved. Pretty girl stalking me is bound to be lots of trouble," he told her with a grin.

"There's a feeling to L.A. you can't find anywhere else; that's for sure. Beat the hell out of Barstow."

Nodding, he thought he could respect what she'd done. He knew what it was like to have to rebuild your life from scratch, make choices to live your life anyway you could. They might call themselves agents and soldiers, but they were survivors. Fugitives with a damn good network, maybe. He grinned when she laughed. "Then you'd understand nuestra familia. No parental figures. Just a bunch of friends who all needed something, you know? We're all we've got. Some of us are blood. Most of us aren't."

"Then this," she said, waving her hands around, "should be right up your alley. I don't think you can get a bigger surprise as getting into a new dimension and being told we're planning on going in another one that's like... prehistoric? Wait, can you call it that if it's really now and not in history? Well, whatever, I'm sure there are people in there that can give you the proper definition."

She smiled. "Oh my, my, it's a very good thing that I'm only interested in one man or I'm sure you'd get into a lot of trouble." She snorted at the LA comment. "LA versus NY, it's pretty much been the debate since we got here, and I don't think it will end any time soon. You're more than happy to try and win it."

Savannah nodded. "I do indeed, and if they are your family, then they are. People might not agree, but if that's how you feel, it's how you feel." Her smile dimmed. "I am sorry that you lost them. I know that you get thrown into this life, and people are telling you about all the things that need to be done next, but no one ever gives you the time to mourn that part of your life. Of course, it seems that your life isn't exactly on the legal side, so maybe you will get to see them again. Some of these guys, my husband, they are agents and cops. They will tell the government that they are back and deal with the consequences, because it's who they are."

"I'll give you the first part, definitely. Alternate dimensions is a helluva trip." Of course, once his mind settled on the fact there were alternate dimensions out there and this wasn't just some hallucination or something, the rest was not as surprising. Moving to a new dimension from here was just another place to roll with the hits until he landed on his feet running again. Okay...dinosaurs, if there were any, would be a trip and a half. But, the human mind could become accustomed to anything given enough time. And running was running no matter how cool the scenery. "I'll leave the proper definitions to them, then. If it didn't come with axles and grease, I wasn't interested in school."

That shit-eating grin was back. "And you'd help me right along into it." Brian shrugged. "Got no need to win it. If I'm living with the sun and surf, I've already won."

Brian wasn't thinking about mourning anyone. Mourning meant giving up and they'd put that behind them now. There was no giving up. There was no accepting. "Haven't lost anything except a few hundred grand I can't keep because it's worthless paper here." It was his turn to snort. "Operations here aren't exactly on the legal side, are they? I was both a cop and an agent once and it doesn't matter. There's no maybe. I get back to my world, our dimension, whatever, I'll find them. And if I can't, they'll find me. There are no other options."

Savannah chuckled. "It is. When we do things, we do things big," she said, although they hadn't really done much other than to retrieve the people that arrived. The other comment had her smiling even more. "Oh thank goodness for a normal person. I was a cheerleader and a Phys Ed major. Give me jumps, nutrition, exercise and I'm there, but everyone is so intellectual here. I think half of the time they are talking to me like they think I'm an idiot simply because I don't use fancy words or really care about philosophy or whatever else. Things are, right? No need to sit around and ponder all the what ifs when you know what's right already."

She chuckled. "I don't know. I'm friendly, but not that friendly, not matter what people think of cheerleaders." She looked out and made a face. "Not much water up here and it's not that warm either."

Savannah sighed. "But you have, even if temporarily. I don't mean to be cruel, but you need to understand that, because right now and until we get back home, this is your team and your family. We help each other as much as we can, and the people who've resisted that... they haven't been very happy." She smiled. "No, they aren't, but any time they've had a chance, they've made it legal. We worked for the government not one, but twice, including after they tried to kill us. We have techs that could get us anything, but we still pay for everything." She moved closer and hugged him. "Good for you. Laws or not, family is the most important thing."

"Only way to live," he replied with another grin. Live large. Enjoy the ride. Brian was a smart guy -- or, a smartass, depending on who you asked -- but intellectual he was not and he laughed at her obvious relief. "I know some people who might argue that normal part. But, your brain is safe from imploding with me. Although, all bets are off if you get me started on torque, blocks and piston rings. Still, I bet you hold your own."

Brian had never mastered the art of raising a single eyebrow, but he always tried anyway. "Who said trouble involved friendly. You get too friendly, I'll have some explaining to do to my girlfriend when I get back," he teased before shrugging. "It's February in the mountains. Wait another month. Things will warm up. And the beach is just the other side of that mountain range over there.

"No offense, but it doesn't work that way." Turning away, he looked back out over the ranch land the way he'd been doing when she followed him out there. "Team is one thing. Helping each other is great and all. But, you gotta earn family." There was no replacing one family with another just because they weren't there. The bonds between Brian and the Torettos, between them and the rest of their crew, had been built with pain and blood and a whole lotta hell. No one here was ever going to replace them for Brian.

And Brian was used to women hanging around, touching, leaning, hanging...until they figured out Mia wasn't just a race bunny hanging on his arm. Women suddenly hugging him, women who weren't Mia or Suki, wasn't as normal. Even Giselle didn't hug like that. But, he let Savannah hug him and shook his head after. "Glad you approve, I think."

Savannah was a sweet girl, but Brian was starting to think she was just a little odd...or maybe a little too wholesome.

"I'm pretty sure normal was erased from the dictionary around here Or maybe they keep it around, because they'd feel wrong with ruining a book," she said teasingly, before frowning. "I've got no idea what you just said. It sounds like Greek to me, not that I really know what Greek sounds like, but if it doesn't involve reading things that are completely irrelevant in everyday life, you can go ahead and explain."

Savannah giggled. "I'm always friendly, you silly man. Just not that type of friendly." She looked down at her stomach and then back at him. "Seriously? Do you know how friendly is so not happening?" Not that it would have made a difference if she weren't in her third trimester, not when they were living in one room. "So what's your girlfriend's name?" she asked, ignoring the discussion about the beach and the mountains. She could have that discussion with Marty plenty of times.

She shook her head. "None taken, and I don't disagree. It took us a long time to get where we are, and some people arrived later and aren't there yet, but the way I see it, we are the family, the core group, the ones who've been here from the start, and it's up to us to welcome the new people. I don't expect you to trust us on our word, although it'd be really nice for once to get one person that is not suspicious of our help, but you need to know that the opportunity is there for you to take when you're ready, because the reverse is... is hard. No offense, but we don't need you. We've done fine for two and something years." She stepped back and turned into fire, something that she rarely did with the twins around, but loved to do when they weren't. She didn't stay long though, in case they came out with Marty. "We got powers, we got training, we got the family. I also know what it means to be surrounded by people who have all of that when you have nothing, so I make the effort with everyone. Most people eventually come around, some never do, but at least I know that I've tried and I didn't leave them alone. And, I don't mean to imply that we're all family and the same, just that you can find a different family here if you need it."

Savannah nodded. "I do approve. I think we started this conversation with me saying that family is the most important thing. Even if it's not what my family would do, I could never think badly of you, because you want to find your family."

"I see how it is. When you said 'thank goodness for a normal person', you were just joshing," he teased in return. "The only Greek words I know are gyro, feta, and souvlaki." Brian laughed. "What I said, however, is the language of the greasemonkey, a language that is only as irrelevant as your need to keep a car in working condition or better. The block and piston rings are parts of the engine. Torque is how much force is needed to make something turn on it's axis."

Brian's look was rather wolfish, even if he was only teasing, as he followed her gaze to her belly. "I know how friendly could happen anyway," he suggested, thinking about the few occasions Mia had been willing during the later weeks. But Savannah didn't seem to be as big as Mia had been, so he wasn't sure if she was as far along as her words suggested. For a moment, he hesitated about naming her. But, even his counterpart -- and wasn't that a weird pill to swallow -- had known the Torettos. At home it was well known the three of them were traveling together. "Mia. Her name is Mia. And she'd kick my ass for getting that friendly," he added with a laugh.

"Well, if you don't need me, I guess I can be getting on my way." Snorting Brian shook his head. "Oh wait. You don't need me, but you do need my cooperation. If you didn't, I wouldn't be here. Like I said, I've played this game before. And, while that--" he waved a hand at her, even though she wasn't fire any longer "--may be cool and all, other than convince people the sci-fi shit could be real, it doesn't do much else. You just told me you fought it for a month and tried to kill yourself. You know from experience being drugged and taken at gunpoint makes people suspicious. It's never going to change as long as your people do business this way."

Brian knew what the reverse was, knew what having nothing, being 'hungry', was like. From the sound of it, he knew better than she did. She hadn't experienced it until she got here, if he was reading the implications right. But, Brian had lived it for longer than she had probably been alive. He'd been the guy on the outside looking in.

Right up until Dominic Toretto had shown him what he was missing...then invited him to have a part in it.

"You're a mother. Maybe you'll understand it better this way. Team, friends, I'm all about that. But, I have a family. I have a child I promised myself I would never abandon. It's not that I don't appreciate what you're offering. And for someone else, maybe it is what they need. But, family means something very specific to me. It's Mia and our child, her brother, our crew. It doesn't matter how many dimensions are between us. That's my family." Whatever alliances or, even friendships, he might make here, his true family, getting back to them, was his number one priority. Period.

"I totally was not," she said with a grin. "And I know those words, too, so great, and I had a brand new Prius, so keeping the car in good working condition meant bringing it to Toyota and ask what time the car would be ready. It was very expedient," she said, giggling. "Travis is more than mechanic here. You should talk to him for someone who speaks your language."

Savannah snorted. "Sorry, but that friendly isn't going to happen now or before. I did mention that I was a virgin, yes?" Her expression softened as he mentioned her name. "Mia, that's a very nice name, and good for her. My idea is that you can look all you want, but that's where it stops."

She chuckled. "I don't need you to become part of my family, but yes, I know what you means." Savannah sighed. "It wasn't like this for a while, you know? People would swap with their counterpart, so there was no issue about being there two of you here, and when we found them, we gave them the option of coming with us or going elsewhere and we'd give them money and ID. Some people have left in fact. We just can't risk it anymore. I mean, it seems like you could run from what Travis said, but not everyone would be able to stay off the grid, and if we found you, the government might as well."

She nodded. "I get it, Brian, and I'm not blaming you. Family is important, and I'll do what I can to help you to get back to them. I... my parents stopped talking to me because I moved to a non Christian school. I had to make my own family after that. I'm not saying that this is the same, and I'm not saying for a single moment that you should replace them, but maybe with time, you can add to that family." She squeezed his arm. "But I do get it that no one can take their place, and I'll be here when you need a shoulder to lean on. We'll get you back to them."
