"Well, if you ever go back, you should totally fire a cook who doesn't bake cakes," she said, like that was the important subject in the world.
"I don't like the term. Suit you implies that you're using the other person in somewhere, that you need him or her for what he or she can do for you," Savannah said. "Love, relationships, they aren't like clothes that need to fit just right. They are a work in progress, a willingness to compromise and chance who you are to make the other person happy while never asking the other person to change, and in exchange you get the same. It's becoming a better person not because someone else is asking you to, but because you can't imagine not doing anything in your power to make that person proud of you, to be there to help him and support him. Nothing about love 'suits' anyone. It's work."
She shook her head. "It's not the same. Sure, he's your best friend and he'll be by your side. Until he finds someone. Not because he's not your friend or because he's faking it, but because that person will become the most important one and you will have to take a backseat. Look at Sean. He has an entire family here that supports him, but he wasn't really happy until Troy was at his side and you know something, if he ever had to choose, even with all of the family around, he'd pick Troy and that's the way it should be. Not having that in your life makes you lonely in the long run, and being alone for too long takes your humanity away, especially with the power we have. You need people to keep you human. You need someone close to you that can keep you grounded while supporting you, someone you trust completely and who trusts you completely. I think we all need that one person in this life, which is why no one chooses to stay alone."
