"Oh don't you even try that, Buster. I've dealt with a lot of men a lot more stubborn than you are. You don't get away with not answering my questions. So why couldn't your cook bake cakes? Or is this another case of you saying things that aren't really accurate, but more an exaggeration because it sounds good?" Savannah really hated that. Why couldn't people just say what they mean? Even when she didn't understand what they meant, it was preferable to getting incorrect answers.
"The couples are not a mystery and there's little to figure out. You work with these people, you eat with these people, you spend all of your free time with these people. You can't trust anyone but these people. There's really no other place you can live an honest life but with these people," she said with a shrug. "Once you finally accept that, there's very little to decide"
She smiled. "Also some of these couples were couples before they even came here. Technically they might not have been together, but they were partners, colleagues, people who were inseparable and trusted only each other, friends who were too afraid to take that step and be with each other."
