Re: Elaine and her boys
Elaine smiled. "No, my dear boy, I'm trying to tell you that I'm worried about Nana, about your father, and yes even about me, but ultimately about you and Dougie."
"Mom, a couple of weeks ago, you basically said that you wanted to stay. Now you're saying you want to leave. You're giving me whiplash," Doug answered.
"A couple of weeks ago, I didn't know that hospitals would be off limit forever," she pointed out. "Forget about us for a moment. What about you? What if you decide to settle down? You can never have children, and if you do, how would you convince your wife that you're from another dimension and the government is looking for you so she can't go to a hospital? You know how that sounds. You'll also be condemning those children if this is genetic as they suspect. I'm not saying that we need to go with them forever, but at least at the start, until we find a dimension that's less dangerous to our health."
"I don't even know why we're discussing this," Doug said. "I told you from the start that I'll do what you want. You can phrase it in however many ways you want, but in the end, it's never going to be my decision. So let's cut down on the discussions, tell me what you want me to do, and we'll do it. Now, we're done. Perfect, I can go back to Maura, you two can decide what you want."
