Savannah chuckled, but shook her head. "No, that's not my job. My job is to train you, give you orders to make sure you stay alive, and keep you alive. If you decide to help, that's because you decide that it's the right thing that helps the most people."
She smiled at Sean, because she knew that there weren't going to be problems on that front. "All right, next thing. I know there are several units and chances are you will be moved around at some point. Each leader has a style and you can see that style trickle down. Marty is the cop, Derek is the soldier, Robert is the pilot, Mike is the agent. John is ... John is like me, he adapts and survives. That's what I want you to learn. We'll work at the range, at the gym, but in the end, it's your brain that needs to be trained to fight against instinct, because sometimes that's not the smart thing to do.
"Oliver, your speed when you fight is amazing, but you always fight. You don't step back. You might win the fight, but you might have given up your partner in the meantime. Sometimes, it's fine to use that speed to get out and then use a rifle. Most rifles can shoot accurately at 400 yards. A sniper rifle has an accuracy of 800 miles. You shot, you kill, you protect the rest of the team." She turned to Tommy. "I know leaving is your default, but sometimes hiding is good, because it allows your partner to fight without worrying about your safety, but sometimes hiding separates you from the rest of the unit, and you'd be dead."
She knew words were not going to change things though. "We can all learn from each other, and one thing I do want to learn is how to use that bow. We might get to the point where that is the only weapon we have left and Oliver might not be able to use it. I don't expect the three of us to be experts, but I do want to know that any of us can pick it up and use it." It wasn't likely, because she would always use her powers first, and so would Sean, but it was important that they all learned to use everything at their disposal. It was about their mentality than the actual bow.
