"With regard to those physicals," she went on, "I can perform several basic diagnostic tests using the equipment I carry in my field investigation bag, which I was lucky enough to have with me when I crossed dimensions: Blood pressure, spondee threshold tests, ophthalmoscopy, basic physical examinations, breast examinations, prostate examinations. These are not sufficient to provide an accurate assessment of anyone's physical well-being or field readiness. Nor do they comprise more than half of what is required for routine physicals by many law enforcement and federal agencies. Access to a microscope alone would give me the ability to conduct a complete blood panel and papanicolaou test, as well. Other more basic equipment that would be helpful would be cards for the basic vision tests, -- Snellen Test, Amsler Grid Test, Tangent Screen Test, Color Vision Test -- an audiometer or tuning fork, urinalysis testing strips, -- of several types, not just for illicit drugs -- a diaton transpalpebral tonometer, PPD tuberculin, and a sufficient supply of disposable vaginal specula. Also a supply of vials, syringes, and slides if those are not already available. Some the weightier equipment that would, most likely, not be portable for wherever we're going or would require an electrical power source that may or may not be available, would include a centrifuge, spirometer, spectrophotometer, x-ray machine, and an EKG machine.
"The type of things I wished to cover in training are most likely best incorporated into the survival training, although some procedures may lend themselves toward longer sessions. As I understand it, they should already know basic first aid and triage procedures. I was more interested in expanding that knowledge to include basic life-saving procedures most first aid courses would tell them not to perform, the ones EMTs are usually discouraged from performing: a fasciotomy using the screen from a cell phone as a scalpel, using a pen for a tracheostomy, and so forth. The medical equivalent of what Reese is teaching regarding building tables and cooking fires. But, I can speak with Lieutenant Reese or Detective Deeks about scheduling."
