RP: TJ and Doug Who: TJ Hammond and Doug Hammond Where: Their house When: Sunday, January 6, 2012 - evening Summary: TJ wants to fix things...at least between the two of them.
There was some family party going on at the rec center and everyone in the house but TJ and Travis had been invited. Of course, TJ suspected Doug was only invited because he'd been partnered with Jenna Hanna and it was a party to celebrate her anniversary. But, TJ didn't mind having the time with the house to themselves.
For one thing, it gave him time to play. He hadn't had much time during the week. They might have trained while they were in Pittsburgh, but Travis was in no way the task master Reese was, nor had they trained all day. They'd had breakfasts and brunches and sex and afternoon naps. Now, TJ was tired in the evenings...or, nights, rather, since they were working for insane amounts of hours.
And there were too many people around. The kind of playing he needed to do wasn't for public consumption. Besides, after that email from Savannah, the last thing he wanted to do was field more questions about why he wouldn't play for their club nights. TJ had seen the looks. Oh, nothing had been said within his earshot. But, when you lived the life he had, you learned to recognize that certain gleam in a person's eyes that said they were just watching and waiting for the next big story. TJ wasn't in the mood to be anyone's entertainment.
So, he took advantage of the time after dinner when they were alone in the house to sit and play for awhile.
Tonight it a contemplative mix of classical pieces and songs from musicals, a few piano standards. There Are Worse Things (I Could Do) slipped into Ave Maria, then dropped into Moonlight Sonata.
TJ needed to talk to Doug, really talk to him, not this shallow, politician's chatter their conversations around the house had turned into. He missed the closeness that had developed in Pittsburgh. He knew he'd fucked up. But, that was only part of it. He'd told their mother part of it. There was more to it than just what had happened at dinner or the way Doug was shutting down. It was all of those things and probably other things TJ didn't see. No matter what, it was up to TJ to try to help his twin.
He was moving from I Dreamed a Dream into Bring Him Home when the others started to return from the party. It wasn't very late, but the happy couple was retiring to their room, hopefully for the night. TJ looked up, still playing, as Doug came through the living room. "Sit with me for a little while?"
If everyone went into their rooms, it would leave them some semblance of privacy to talk.
