Re: Elaine/TJ
"He is," TJ said simply. Whatever his parents thought of the matter, TJ couldn't just make the decision to stay or go without considering Travis and his desires. Too many people had just up and left Travis in his life. TJ wouldn't be another one. If they did part ways, they would talk first. TJ had promised.
And he would think about it later because he didn't want to think about having to choose between his family and Travis that permanently just yet.
Smiling a little, TJ shook his head. "It's who you are, Mom. You've haven't paused a day in your life. I should be used to it by now." And he was. It just annoyed him because she never seemed to understand that he couldn't operate the way she did, the way most of his family did. Just like he wasn't sure how to answer her question when she asked. Was she asking about the moment? The last three months? Travis? The drugs? One question could mean anything and he had a tendency to guess wrong at what she wanted more often than not. "It's never too late to ask, Mom. And, I'm...happy."
Okay, maybe he wasn't strictly happy because his brother wasn't talking to him. But, for the moment he was happy and he was trying to do as Travis always recommended and take it one day at a time.
