RP: Picking up the Pittsburg team
Who: Marty Deeks, Alexis Castle, Sean Hanna, Tommy Merlyn, Robert Callen, Troy Bolton, Claudia Donovan, Travis Marks, TJ Hammond, Doug Hammond
Where: Pittsburgh, PA
When: Tuesday, January 1, 2013
Summary: Time to pick up the rest of the team.

Taking over for G was definitely not the easiest task in the world. Marty felt like he was working double time just to cover half the things G would have thought of in his sleep. He'd set up ops before with LAPD. But, they'd been mostly solo gigs that only involved how to get himself in and out in one piece. He'd worked with Sam and G for years now. But, it wasn't the same as stepping into that role himself.

It was kind of nerve-wracking if he let himself think about it too much, which he was carefully not doing. He was focusing on one step at a time, looking only as far ahead as he could plan for with as little as they still had to go on. First thing: get the units settled and ready to shift gears to start training for a rescue mission in who knew where. Second step: Go pick up the rest of his team to get all hands on deck.

Happy New Year.

Marty's plan was simple, really. Marks had furniture to move. The retrieval team became movers.

He told Marks to liquidate the car. Then, leaving Robert and his crew with the plane, Marty took Alexis, Sean, and Merlyn to rent a nondescript moving van and drove out to pick up Marks and the Hammond brothers. He left Sean and Alexis with the van and sent Marks a text to let him know they were there. It was only about half an hour's drive back to the plane and Marty held off on explanations until everything was loaded and they were getting settled for take off.

That was when he turned to Marks and held out his hand. "Thanks for answering the call, man."

Travis had pretty much thought of everything, but then Deeks called covering the same stuff. He should have known that they would duplicate the thinking, but it was better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.

When they were finally settled to leave, Travis shook Deeks' hand. "No need to thank me. So what's going on? Where's the usual suspects?" Not that he didn't like Deeks, he did, but from what he'd seen in the short time there, Callen and Sam were the first to go when there was something to do. "Unless you just missed me, which I would understand. I'd miss me, because I'm that amazing."

Marty laughed. "You got me, man. I just couldn't go another day without you." Clapping Marks on the shoulder, he nodded toward the seats. "Buckle up. I'm not eager to be the ones delaying Robert's take off."

Heading for his own seat, he waited for Marks to join him. "We lost the leads. All four of them are MIA: G, Sam, Derek, Emily. They went out the day after Christmas and disappeared. We're mounting a rescue operation, but it'll take time. It's not going to be easy. We've been living in conditions that are quite a bit more isolated and less civilized than the base for the last couple months. We're now training for conditions that could be a hundred times worse.

"In the meantime, we need every able body we can muster. Reese has taken over as Security Chief and Second-in-Command. Until we find them, I'm taking over as Lead."

"At least you can admit it. It's a big first step. I'm sure your wife is really proud of you." Travis grinned as he found a seat and strapped himself up. "Somehow I don't think the service on his plane is as nice as on a commercial flight."

He took in the information. Of course, joking was the first response. "And now I know why you came to this dimension. You skipped Lieutenant and went straight to Captain. You know if you'd put the years, you'd have gotten there even in LAPD." He might joke, but he knew that Deeks wanted the desk job as much as he did.

"You don't wait to rescue people. Every hour lessens the chance of success. You have forty-eight hours before they are dead or compromised," he said in a much lower tone. "They aren't here anymore, are they?" There was no other reason why they'd wait. Even an half-assed plan was better than waiting and giving the government to hide them deeper.

"Since you're lead, I guess you need to know about us, don't you? We've kept up with training. They are pretty good technically," he said without hiding the pride. "Better than your average cop, not as good ad a SEAL, but then none of us are. They know what to do, how to defend themselves. Emotionally, I don't know They were never really tested. It was always with me or each other, and they trust me. There's also a difference in thinking that you're exercising and knowing that you are out there shooting at people and worse being shot at. TJ has been clean this entire time."

"What? We're very nice on this plane," Marty replied with a smirk. "We just define service by branches of the military."

Snorting, he rolled his eyes. "Yep, that's me. Fast track to brass."

Marty watched as Marks processed everything he was saying, unsurprised when he reached the correct conclusion. You didn't survive working the sort of cases they worked, the sort of undercover assignments they worked, without being able to put things together with connections so thin they made garroting wire look thick. Pursing his lips, he shook his head once.

"TJ, hm?" Marty wasn't going to press, but he'd been around the rest of the family enough to know Thomas Hammond didn't let just anyone call him that. They might need to reconsider roommate assignments. "I'll need to see for myself, but to be honest, everyone's going to be tested now. We're looking at going into a situation like the one Reese and John come from and it's going to throw everyone. You missed the speech Reese gave everyone about it. Cheerful.

"We're putting all three of you right into the field units starting tomorrow. We're putting the three of you in a house with Dom and Jenna and the baby, as well as our newest arrival. Dr. Isles arrived a week before Christmas, Chief Medical Examiner from Boston. So, she's familiar with law enforcement and totally inexperienced. You're also being assigned to my unit as second-in-command. You'll be partnered with one of the brothers. Alexis is my partner. We just borrowed Sean and Merlyn for this mission since you were the ones we were picking up."

"If you're the nice one, I don't know what it says about the rest," Travis answered, but his mind was on that confirmation. "Sorry. How's your wife taking it?" He had always resisted having a family, but he believed in its importance and a cop's wife was just as important as a cop. Travis would care about Savannah regardless of her personality.

Travis shrugged at the implied question. Deeks was going to find out anyway, and it was much easier to be upfront. "TJ, part of the cover, became more, he says it's going to stay more, I'm waiting to see what the return does to them. It's not going to interfere with work, but I want to be partnered with him. Regardless of the situation with us, you have to take TJ a certain way to make him do what you need him to do. Doug is much more logical about things."

He snorted. "Do I get to hear the speech again? I love them so much, especially when they are as upbeat as you say, or you can give me the recap."

Tommy/TJ (with some Douglas)

Tommy loved to fly. He loved private jets even more. He did not enjoy flying in things that could fit plenty of people and equipment (and possibly vehicles), but had cabin space that looked like some kind of futuristic hallways of torture, which provided no privacy at all.

He didn't let that stop him from greeting the one person who knew how to party. "Thomas Hammond, it is good to see you," he said, offering his hand. "Douglas, it's good to see you too." That wasn't a lie, just not really the truth either. "Your parents told me you were here. It's good to know you weren't dead like they told us."

Despite the pep talk from Travis the night before, TJ had been on edge since the woke up. That didn't mean he let anyone see it. That would never do. But, he didn't have to fake the grin when Tommy came over. The one good thing about going with his family to those boring fundraiser dinners was it put him in a position to meet others in their social strata with similar interests to his own -- namely anywhere but stuck at those boring dinners.

"Tommy Merlyn." TJ took the offered hand. "Good to be seen. And, apparently not dead. Although, I'm going to assume it wasn't my parents who said we were." They might wish TJ wasn't, well, TJ. But, he was pretty sure their desire to have Doug back would keep them from declaring TJ dead just because he was out of the picture for awhile. "Come on and sit with us. It looks like Travis has gotten pulled in to work already. So, you can fill us in on what we're going back to."

Tommy laughed. "No, not your parents, but the government back home, and the media had a field day, as you can imagine," he said, sitting down in one of those horrible chairs and strapping himself in. "There are talks of several movies in the works. One on your parents: tragic life and love and the most powerful couple in America, or something similar; one on the family. I'm pretty sure there were discussions about one on you and your brother."

Doug snorted. "That's exactly how I wanted people to know me, a damn Lifetime movie." At least, Anne would be able to move forward, though. Susan, too.

Tommy looked at where Deeks was talking to the new guy. "It's always work around here, especially now that those four leads disappeared," he said, lowering his voice, because he was well aware of he other people on the plane. "Not that things weren't crazy before and not the fun kind of crazy. Tell me you have some Roxies with you." He wasn't really planning on taking it, but it would be nice to have the option.

TJ groaned. "Jesus Christ, I can already hear the title. 'Young and Gay in Washington: TJ Hammond, the untold story'. If they cast Pattinson to play me, I'm going to sue no matter what dimension I'm in."

They'd been declared dead.

He wasn't actually sure how he felt about that. It both complicated and simplified his future in crazy ways. TJ would...think about that later. His eyebrow raised at the comment about the missing leads. That explained a lot. He might not be a great politician, but he knew enough to know that a shake-up in leadership would definitely be reason enough to call Travis back. He glanced toward his lover, then back at Tommy.

"How long have you been here?" he asked.

And then the request came and it was weird. TJ had spent too many weeks around people who didn't share his partying habits. It seemed almost jarring to hear such a normal request now. He shook his head. "Not my chosen poison," he replied just as lowly.

Tommy laughed. "You can party, but you can't come up with a decent title, and you never put the word 'gay' in the title, because it becomes a niche movie. I'm sure they'd love to play on the twin thing, faces of coins, you know every cliche known to man to make it as widely watched as possible." He raised his eyebrows. "I didn't know you felt so strongly about the man. An ex maybe?"

It felt like a lifetime that they had been here, but in truth, it hadn't even been a month. Life really sucked. "We got here on the fifth. I arrived with Oliver. Do you remember him? Oliver Queen, presumed dead after a ship wreck. It turns out that he wasn't dead, but on a deserted island. The irony, which you'll understand when we'll get to our destination.

Tommy sighed. "It seems like it's no one's chosen poison. Brian offered E, but it doesn't really do for the withdrawal symptoms." For a moment, he felt every single one kick in. He knew that it was mostly mental at this point, since the worse of the physical symptoms had disappeared, but mental or not, there were moments when he felt as if he was just starting detoxing. "So what is your current poison?" he asked, because nothing solved detox like discussing drugs.

"They do if it's a Lifetime movie," TJ pointed out with a smirk. "Makes it more poignant and socially connected. It would be told from Doug's point of view, of course." He snorted. "Hardly. Let's just say there's an unofficial rivalry I intend to win."

It took him a moment to place Oliver Queen. But as Tommy went on recognition dawned. "Yeah, I remember." More the story than the man, but he did remember he and Tommy were friends. "I think I'd rather not have that irony confirmed. But, at least you had a friend in the madness that is what I remember of these people from three months ago."

TJ sympathized. He really did. "Very little does. Although, the E here makes the stuff at home look like candy. Brian hooked me up shortly after we got here. It was the highlight of that first week, trust me." Laughing at the question, he shook his head. "Man, does it matter? Coke's been the choice for a few years now. But, anything that feels good won't be turned down...or, wouldn't."

"Too big for Lifetime," Tommy answered. "First woman president, first woman whose was a president, youngest campaign manager, youngest Chief of Staff. Your family is going on the big screen. Now, my disappearance and Oliver's is more likely to go on Lifetime, mostly his, considering that it's the second time. Unless we're dead too. Cleaner from the government's point of view, especially if this is the third time that's happened."

Tommy snorted. "Sorry to disappoint you, but it'll be confirmed sooner rather than later. Do you know that we have to fish daily for food? Your father is pretty good and he doesn't have to dive, which is always a plus in my book. My lungs can take this crap anymore." He nodded. Oliver might be very different from the person he knew, but he was his best friend and he made things better. "Yes, having Oliver around helps, even if it's less than great on my ego. He spent five years surviving. He doesn't bat an eye at most of the stuff these people do."

He chuckled. "Yeah, Brian said, but that wasn't really what I needed. Nice mental kick, but not so much physically." He remembered the way Thomas partied and wasn't surprised by the answer until the last part. "Wouldn't? I'd ask if it were by choice, but you've been away from treasure island. You should have been able to find something."

"Then I may get to sue for casting Pattinson after all." TJ shrugged. He'd only been building off Doug's comment about a Lifetime movie. The last thing he really wanted was a handful of movies made about his family. The chances any of it would be complimentary or accurate were slim. It would be worse than all those countless articles and stories speculating on his life.

"Dad gets to fish every day? He must love that." The rest didn't sound as great. Diving? God, what were they getting themselves into? "If it wasn't diving, it'd be something else. I decided these people are sadists. I was sure my lungs were going to explode before we left."

He shrugged again. "At first not really. It was more something I thought I had to do, but didn't want to. Now...depends on the day you ask." He chuckled softly. "I haven't had a lobotomy, Tommy-boy. I'm still me. I just haven't used in awhile."

Tommy rolled his eyes. "You'll have to explain the Pattinson's fixation one day, maybe after a nice joint. I have a feeling, it will make more sense." Not that anything made sense in this dimension.

"I think he liked it better before the rain and wind, but it's supposed to be nice for the next few days." He loved having someone who understood around. Oliver tried, but he seemed to think that survival was normal and not something you did because you had no choice. "Someone who understands. Life already got a little better."

He started to laugh, maybe a little relieved, because it was nice to see that someone had stayed the same. "You scared me for a while. Everyone gets so... gang-ho about everything, except the fun stuff. Together, we can show them how to party."
