RP: Everyone
Who: Everyone on the island
Where: the island
When: morning PT, December 27, 2012
Summary: Derek establishes a few rules
Derek decided that the best time to talk to everyone was bright and early before PT. He waited until everyone showed up to speak up.
"Everyone listen up. Everyone should know about the changes, and when leaders change so do the rules, so let's set up a few ground rules to make everyone happier," he said. "You should know that in my dimension I became a soldier at fifteen, not because I wanted to, but because we had a civil war, my parents died and I had a little brother to protect. I went up the ranks, not by putting time or politics, but because I stayed alive longer than most. We are preparing a rescue mission which will turn our lives into the type of life I had. Every day will be a war and that's what I'm training you for.
"Up until now, you've had people who've cuddled you, understood you, wanted to be your friend, tried to accommodate you and your needs. I don't plan on doing any of that. Ii want to make sure that you're trained so that you are capable of fighting and you don't get anyone else killed with your incompetence. Anything else is irrelevant. You want to whine and bitch, go do it with your friends, because I'm not going to care." If they thought that he'd be as nice as the four leads that had just disappeared, they were in for a rude awakening.
"Now, let's move onto rules. We're splitting up people into partnership, with a senior partner and a junior on. There will be units, but these will be loosely based, mostly for designation and ease. Every pair should be able to work with another pair. However, chain of command is vital. I'm the 2IC, which means I'm the one that gets to listen to your bitching in the end. You have a problem, you speak with the senior parter. You are the senior partner, you speak to the team leader. You are the team leader, you talk to me. That's where it ends. With me. You don't go to Vance, you don't go to Deeks unless it's specifically related to team training, in which case he's all yours. Otherwise, you come to me and I will deal with the matter if I can. If you aren't satisfied with the resolution, I will bring your problem up with Deeks or Vance, depending on the subject. I will do so if I believe it's reasonable and once you get your answer from above, you don't get to go and talk it out. I'm not saying that they don't make the decisions, only that you don't get to bother them with every stupid thing that comes through your mind." If they were going into dangerous territory, he was not going to have these people starting discussions because they didn't like things.
"Now, how do you talk to me? If it's time sensitive, you call me. If you don't get me, you call someone else in my house or you come to my house. I tend to catnap, so I'm pretty much available 24/7. If it's not time sensitive, you talk to me when you see me next. You don't text me, you don't email me, you don't send me messages through whatever other means of commutation you might have. You talk to me. An addendum to that, you talk to me about important things and you don't waste time, mine or anyone else's. Do you know how people say that there are no such thing as stupid questions? They are wrong. People ask all sorts of stupid or irrelevant things. Ask your friends or go search them up in your computer if they aren't relevant to our survival." Despite what he was saying, he knew that people would ask stupid questions, because Callen and company had spoiled them. "We can teach you to fight, but we can't teach you common sense and if you don't start using it, you will eventually die, which isn't as bad as if you get someone else killed." Then they'd have to deal with him.
"Housing changes. No one will sleep alone. Children will be sleeping with their parents in their bed. The following people: Director Vance, Hammond, Elaine Barrish, Margaret Barrish, Donovan, Beale, Queen, Merlyn, Isles need to room with someone. If you have preference let me know before I make housing assignment, and I will be making changes. No one will stay at the hotel, everyone will be in houses. You will learn to live like you're under attack 24/7. To help you, we're getting clothes. You will wear cargo pants, tee, shirt, jacket and combat boots. On your person, you will carry two guns, a rifle, four clips for each, a Swiss knife, a big knife, a canteen with water, and an MRE. Those items will be on your person at all times. If you have children, include necessities for them. You will also carry with you your bug out bag, and I mean always, even if you're going to the fucking bathroom. The bag should have at least 4 more bottles of water, 8 MREs, your ER kit, three sets of clothes, basic toiletries, another rifle, more ammo. We'll see what we can do with C4 and grenades." He hoped that they could get those quickly. Housing changes will be implemented with the new year, but you start carrying your bag and essentials with you starting now. Green, Jones, talk to me after training." He looked around. "Now, let's start running."
