Entry tags:*complete, 2012 12, character: oliver queen, character: tommy merlyn

RP: Oliver/Tommy
Who: Oliver/Tommy
Where: Tommy's room
When: very early AM December 14, 2012
Summary: It's Tommy's birthday. Oliver gives the gift of lurking.

Oliver was in Tommy's room again, perched on the arm of the sofa with his feet on the cushions, watching Tommy tossing and turning. He'd used the window to enter silently. He didn't want to wake Tommy if he'd been sleeping and he was; restless sleep was still sleep, and Tommy needed it. It was the second night after Oliver's talk with Savannah, Thursday bleeding into Friday. He'd done this a little on Wednesday night, too, unsure and awkward with being there and he'd left before Tommy had awoken. It wasn't the first time he'd kept vigil over a sick comrade, but the circumstances were entirely different.

Dressed in sweats and a t-shirt, Oliver listened to Tommy's fitful slumber and quietly despaired that it had gotten to the point where he had to seek outside help to know how to be a friend. He wasn't even sure if he was doing this because he cared - and wow, was he fucked in the head.

Tommy chuckled. "I wasn't serious, Oliver. I know you can't get them. Since you seem intent in treating me like the damsel in distress, we can save that for when there are fights and guns involved. I'm perfectly okay with standing behind you and letting you deal with things." He hadn't really seen what Oliver could do, but he knew with whom Oliver trained and he heard little things. "How good are you? And it seems that I'm asking questions even without meaning to."

He could understand that. "You've been gone a long time. We've all changed, and after you came back, we've tried to pick up where we left off, pretend that the past five years haven't impacted us, but they have. In different ways, obviously, but none of us are who we used to be. Maybe not me, since according to my father, I'm still that useless, irresponsible, lazy boy I was in college. He might be right, too."

He closed his eyes. "Nothing is helping, Oliver. Or if it does, it's temporary. If this really takes weeks, I might kill myself and get it over. It's not like Sam isn't making me want to do it anyway."

"It's okay. If I don't want to answer, I won't," Oliver said. "I can hit a bullseye every time with a handgun, knife, spear, or arrow. I've already mentioned my hand-to-hand. You'll be amazed at how good you get at something when you have nothing else to do." Or when people are constantly trying to kill you.

"You have to be different somehow, or Laurel wouldn't have given you a second look. I would bank more on something you did that pissed off your dad rather than what you aren't doing, to be cut off abruptly."

Oliver reached out to give Tommy's leg a squeeze. "You'll make it through the withdrawal. Sam's training on the other hand..."

"I like that better than the lies. You don't have to lie to me. When something is too much, tell me that, and I'll back down." Tommy listened, rather impressed by the list. "Good thing I have you here, then. You can stop me from turning into a militaristic nutjob," he joked.

"I'd like to think you're right. I got tired of random women. Okay, maybe not of the women or sex, but I'm twenty-nine year old and I've never been in a relationship, I've never had someone at my side, someone I trusted, someone to share my life with. You know? I'd like to have that. Of course, when I reached that conclusion, we end up here." He shrugged. "I don't know what I did or didn't do that pissed my father off."

He sighed as Oliver touched him, but then smiled. "You're a true optimistic, Oliver. I like that about you." It was his turn to nudge Oliver with his foot. "Before you say anything, I'm under the covers so it doesn't count." He hesitated a moment, knowing how crazy this would sound, because it was crazy even in his own head. "Can you spend the night here? I don't mean sitting there, but here, lying down. I know how insane this is, but there actually is a valid reason. The withdrawal stops production of the endorphins and there are only so many ways to produce them. More drugs, exercise and touch, massages and hugs, I'm not even sure why touch produces more endorphins and faster than exercise, but I'm desperate and I'll try anything to get some sleep. Is that too weird for you?"

"I think there's only room for one nutjob in this friendship," Oliver said, chuckling.

Savannah had mentioned touch, and so the request wasn't completely out of left field. "Sure, I'll stay. I was told touch helps." Oliver shifted around so he was prone on the bed, setting the water on the floor. "Consider me a teddy bear. I'll try not to kill you in my sleep."
