RP: Eliot/April/Nate
Who: Eliot/April/Nate
When: 11-19-12 PM
Where: On the road
Summary: They've stopped for the night and Eliot makes a confession.

Travel was pretty boring. April and Nate took turns driving. They listened to the radio. Nate and April used the 'net on their phones and April made lists on her laptop. They napped. They filled up on gas and ate cheap lunches. They stopped around dinner time for the night, as soon as a pet-friendly hotel was located. They got up the next morning, grabbed breakfast, and got on the road again. Eliot began seeing things...

He hadn't told the other two that his vision was starting to return, not so much from being afraid to jinx it but he didn't want to get April's hopes up. But by Monday night, there was no doubt that he could actually see. Not clearly, but it was definitely happening.

He waited until they'd eaten and returned to the hotel room before broaching the subject. April was repacking Cody's food dish and Nate had parked himself on one of the double beds with the television remote, flipping though channels.

Eliot rubbed the back of his neck before making the announcement. "Hey, just so you two know, I can see again. Sort of."

In the time it took Nate to look up from the news, April was already wrapped around Eliot with a gleeful shout, or at least as wrapped around him as she could be at the moment.

"I knew it! Didn't I tell you so?" she asked. "So how much can you see? What do you mean with sort of? Do you mind if I take a look, do you think you could handle it?"

Nate just chuckled at her excitement. Really how was it that she was over thirty? "Congratulations," he said simply. "About time."

Eliot enjoyed April-octopus, even with her belly being in the way. He chuckled at them both. "Thanks. I think I can handle you taking a look. Everything's very fuzzy, like I need a pair of strong prescription glasses, but I can tell where the beds are, where you guys are, that Cody's jumping around because he probably has to go out. Colors are more of a guess, unless they're obvious."

April was beaming. Partly because she was happy because Eliot could see, partly because she had been right about it. "Nate, take Cody out for a walk," she said, pushing Eliot towards the bed before taking her bag and finding the right instrument.

"You know the deal," she told him, look at the wall and I'll look at you. Behind her, the door closed as Nate left, having patted Eliot's shoulder before he left. April smiled and before she did anything she leaned over and kissed Eliot. "I told you so," she said again. "The rest is just a matter of time."

"Maybe." Eliot didn't like false hope, but he also couldn't disagree. "We'll see." He smirked at his own pun.

"Not maybe, yes on both accounts," she said firmly. "You should know to trust me by now. You'll see," she joked right back.

Looking at Eliot's eyes was a delight on any day. It was amazing how much of them she remembered after so long, especially since they hadn't been involved when Eliot lost them. That didn't seem to matter though, because she did remember them. Now that she had a comparison, she could see how perfectly she'd matched the color of his eyes when she'd ordered the conformers.

Now however, she wasn't focusing on Eliot's eyes themselves, but at the optical nerve she could see through the pupil. It knew what it had looked like, she'd watched it change before her eyes, and now again she could see that it had changed again. It didn't look like it had in her textbooks, but not like it had before either - it looked more like something in between. It was fascinating.

"It looks like a cross between what you had without your eyes and what the rest of us have," she said. "I don't know if that's why you don't see colors or if it's just a matter of time, but we'll find that out too."

She kissed him again. "You can see again!" she said happily, moving to sit in his lap and wrapping her arms around him.

"Oof, you're getting heavy, woman," Eliot teased, pretending to start to drop her. He snugged her back into place. "It's probably because I still can use my other vision. If I glare, it triggers it. I've been told I glare a lot, so it won't look suspicious when I do."

He smiled at her. Even close up, she looked like a fuzzy peach with dark fuzzy hair. "You know, I don't really remember what you look like. You've been this gorgeous skeletal creature for so long now."

"Hey, that's not what you tell your pregnant wife," April said, slapping him on the arm. "I thought Savannah had taught you all the right things to say when she was still alive." She really did miss Savannah. If she'd been alive, she would probably not have agreed to leave.

"You don't remember?" April said. "I remember perfectly what your eyes looked like," she said. "And if you don't believe me you can look at your old conformers and see how similar to your eyes they are."

She kissed him. "You are so lucky you're married to me. So many women would be insulted at that. Just remember that you called me doctor beautiful before you lost your eyesight." Although the thought made her nervous. What if he didn't really think that she was all that beautiful when he could see her again?

"Yeah, she did, but she's not my wife and it says in the marriage contract that I'm allowed to tease my wife all I want," Eliot said. He was relaxed enough with her to actually do it, as opposed to speaking with Savannah and Jenna when he'd just been stating facts albeit bluntly.

"You've always been Doctor Beautiful," Eliot said, smoothing his hand over her hair. "I have an image, but I don't know how accurate it is. Don't matter to me none. I fell for you the person, not your looks."

"Does it say in the marriage contract that teasing might lead to repercussions?" April teased right back, though as Eliot continued the teasing smile turned into a look of pure joy.

"Nice save," she said, though her voice was filled with love as well as happiness. She truly did have the best husband in the world.
