RP: Eliot/April/Nate
Who: Eliot/April/Nate
When: 11-16-12
Where: Las Vegas
Summary: They're on their own.

Eliot and Nate had a brief talk of their own after the decision had been settled, and Nate had been the one to locate a pet-friendly, semi-cheap hotel where they wouldn't stand out. They picked up a ride from the North Las Vegas Airport to the side parking lot next to the Travelodge Ambassador Strip Inn by McCarran International Airport.

Eliot had come to the realization on how to trigger his power, since everything else was still a blur. Whenever he truly glared, he would suddenly be back in x-ray-ville. So when they reached the hotel, he glared around and told Nate where the few cameras were as they were getting out of the shuttle.

As Nate went into the office to finesse a room for them without using an ID - Eliot had no doubts Nate could do it - Eliot waited with April and Cody and their few boxes of belongings they'd packed from the base. Cooking supplies, linens, and a couple basic items that fit neatly into moving boxes. Once again, they'd be starting over, but this time it'd be on their own terms.

It was weird, being on their own, without the group she'd come to rely on over the past two years. She felt alone and exposed, but at least she had Eliot there, and if it worked they'd have a home sooner rather than later.

Getting into the room after Nate had secured a key, she looked around. It was strange enough to be without the group. The idea of the three of them sharing a room was even weirder, but it was the cheapest way she supposed. (This place was expensive enough as it was. She was sure she could have found something in the middle of no where that cost half as much).

Cody was agitated too and stayed unusually close to her. When they entered the room however, he ran around, whined some before being right back besides her. "You miss the others, don't you?" she asked, bending down and scratching him behind the ears. They might not have been the friendliest dogs around, but they'd been dogs and Cody was used to having them around. It would be an adjustment for all of the.

"Okay," she said, getting up and looking at Eliot and Nate. "So what now? How fast can we get out of here? Do you have any preferences on where in the country?" She knew what she wanted, and she knew it was impossible. Ohio would never again be home to her.

She took a seat on the bed, and for once she patted the surface next to her allowing Cody to jump up. He laid down close to her, with his head in her lap.

"Nate and I are going to head out to get the licenses," Eliot said. It wasn't that late in the day, but it wouldn't be that difficult to find a forger willing to take their money. "We'll grab some food on the way back, then Nate's gonna go out and get us a vehicle.

"While we're gone, you can start searching for places for us to settle. We're looking for something within a couple hours of a major city, a town around twenty to thirty thousand people with a high caucasian population. We don't want rural, but it can be a town surrounded by farms. It'll need to have optimal gun laws. Stay away from places we've been or have un-related family in. You also want to check out sales tax, the higher it is, the more things cost in general. The City-Data site's a good place to start. I was listening to it a lot at the school."

April looked at him, tension in her shoulders. "Eliot, I listened too at the school, and at the base and at the ranch. I listened to every lesson, every advice, every lecture we were ever given. I know what we're looking for, I told you yesterday what we were looking for."

"I asked if you had any preferences. You've been the one thinking about this."

Eliot inwardly winced. "M'sorry. I reckon I'm as anxious as you are to get moving. We can't do Ohio, but I was thinking somewhere around there, north of the Mason-Dixon line. Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, maybe Kentucky. They all have a lower cost of living in general, mix of farmland and city living, and we won't stand out."

"You don't think it's too big of a risk?" she asked. Or too much of a temptation. Sometimes, like today, she missed her family so much it hurt. But she had a new family now, and she couldn't endanger either her new family or her parents and sisters out of selfishness.

In her head, an image was forming. A farm, horses, Eve running around in the grass... She knew what it was like growing up like that, and it was what she wanted for Eve. Quiet country living, close to a town but not in it. But it would be a long time before they had the kind of money they needed for a farm. If only they'd had time to get a few more installments from the government before leaving the base it wouldn't be so far off.

"No more risk than anywhere else. If your non-folks came through the area, they'd most likely stick to the major highways if they're driving." Eliot didn't know her parents, but then neither did she because they weren't the same people. "We might not hit on the right place right off the bat, especially because we don't want to drive Nate nuts with our homespun living." He shot a grin in Nate's direction.

While Nate knew better than to get involved with these kind of discussions, he still listened shamelessly. The words homespun living had him looking up from his computer, smiling at Eliot. "Thanks, I need some city life around me." He was a city man at heart, always had been. Raised in Boston and moving to LA before returning to Boston - the idea of something rural? He was pretty sure it wasn't his cup of tea.

If he hadn't seen Eliot in a ranch setting, he'd be sure it was all April's doing. Now it was more that she was bringing out a side of him that was already there.

He closed the computer. "Okay, I know where to go for what we need, are we ready to head out?" he asked. He was getting a bit bored with the conversation.

"We good?" Eliot asked April. He'd done research, yes, but that's why he didn't want to run off right away without taking the time to look over places as a group. April had her training lists and could scour the internet for places that met as much of the criteria as possible without being in the boonies.

"Yeah, go, get it over with. I'll see what I can find in the meantime."

She waited until they left, then sighed as she settled higher up on the bed, Cody moving up and staying close by her. Indiana? So close to home and yet it would be a world away. Could she do it? She could definitely see the perks.

Pushing the thoughts away, she pulled up her computer and started her search. She'd find someplace to call home for them, and maybe then she wouldn't miss the group that she'd been a part of for the last two years. No one there would miss them, it was time to move on.
