RP: Meeting at the Base
Who: Everyone
Where: Conference room
When: 1615, November 14, 2012
Summary: Leon has some news for the team

Leon informed the ADs that he wished to speak with everyone before the end of the work day. He set the time and place and informed the office staff of the same. When the time came, he went to the room and sat at the head of the table.

"We will be leaving tomorrow morning at 0800 for a training exercise, which will last two weeks. We will have trucks taking us to our transport, including a truck for supplies. We will fly from the McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey to the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada on a military craft and once there, we will have a survival course. For that reason, we won't be staying at the base for very long. The point of the exercise is to see if people could truly survive on the run, not as a whole group, but spread all around. To make this exercise as real as possible, we will take everything with us, or at least what's reasonable. No mattresses, no furniture, but you should have as much as possible with you. This should be very similar to what happened at the ranch, but instead of leaving as one, we'll be leaving in groups. That means you bring your keepsakes, your pots and pans, towels, baby things, clothes, whatever it is important to you. The assumption is that if you leave it behind, it's not important. Of course, we'll be taking the children and the dogs. They are as much part of this as the adults. Once again, you bring everything that we would have if we were to run."

He looked around. "It's not just important that we survive an attack, but that we can blend in, and that might require splitting up at a certain point. I want to be ready for that and for the next two weeks, you will get a taste of what could happen. Unless there are questions, you're dismissed. Training tonight is canceled and you can go home and pack."

Eliot spoke up, because Vance had contradicted himself in his explanation of the training exercise. "Director, you said that this exercise is like leaving the ranch, but then you said to bring everything we'd have if we were to run. If we were to run, we'd only have our bug out bags. Do you mean that this is a pre-planned departure, not an emergency evac?"

He hoped he was actually looking in Vance's direction. The sunglasses were gone and the lighting didn't bother him any longer, but everything was just a thick, light blur.

Leon raised an eyebrow. "We've been on the run for over a year before coming here and have had furniture, electronics, cooking equipments, musical instruments. I never said that this was an emergency evacuation, only that we could be on the run and separated. In fact, I added the type of departure we had at the ranch to impress upon people that it's not an emergency where you only have your bag. When we left the ranch, we were very much on the run, Mr. Spencer. There are reasons why we do things. I might not tell you what the reasons are, but there are always reasons, including leaving the ranch."

Eliot clenched his teeth, and for a moment everyone was visible in their skeletal forms along with the layout of the room. The man was a goddamned dick who couldn't answer a simple query without doing his best to make the person asking feel stupid for asking. Eliot was not going to play that game, or fake it. "My apologies for not being a part of the hive mind and asking a clarifying question."

"Mr. Spencer, if you have a problem with me, then you can bring it up with me privately, however no one else knew about this until now. Everyone has heard the same thing and you've made an assumption of what I meant by 'on the run' instead of accepting my words at face value. This isn't anything to do with a 'hive' mind, although I assure you that we're hardly the Borgs and we're not being assimilated." He can't believe he was using Star Trek references now. "I assure you that I try to be as clear and direct as possible and not use mind games when giving directions." He used mind games for everything else. "However, if my directions are not clear, I have never refused to elaborate further, which I did when you asked. I explained succinctly and precisely and yet you take offense to a manner of speaking that is your preferred. If you'd like me to explain in a more verbose manner, rest assured that I can give you the same information with lots of more words, but you have never seemed inclined to enjoy that form of conversation, ergo the short form."

Eliot had asked what 'on the run' meant to Vance, which was most certainly not making an assumption but in fact the opposite, and Vance's response was to speak to him like he was stupid for asking. He clenched his fists in his pockets, shot Nate a look, and went silent before he told the man where to shove it.
