Savannah tilted her head the same way Tim did, and grinned. "That might work better if you weren't in New York. "We're a long way from I-20." It was a damn shame, too. Maybe people would have been nicer if they had been based in the South. At least the weather would have been better.
Tim didn't have to say anything. She could see that he understood what she meant about her mother and her family. Those were lines that you didn't cross without repercussions. "Nah, Mom doesn't love Texas enough to give up her house, position in the charge and connections, and Dad has a pretty good job. Texas would mean a demotion. They'll stay in Memphis. Me, don't rightly know, do I? I reckon I'm here with you for the time being."
She snorted. "Girl like me would have been a real cheerleader and not a rally girl. I'm an athlete, and I'm not interested in doing anyone's homework while he sits around and drink beer or offering un-Christian like services to stroke his ego and something else. I'd have been taken off rotation or whatever rally girls do."
