John and Nate
John had taken Savannah's suggestion and helped himself to a slice of each cake, piled on top of each other rather than on three separate plates, and then found a place to sit where he could eat them without having to juggle cake and soda and likely dropping all of it. He'd go back for some of the real food later. But, he'd decided he'd start with cake. And, this way, he could tell himself he had a piece for his mom and Derek, as well.
Alternating a bit of each was more fun than eating them individually and he was mentally debating if the creme brulee or the cookie cake was his favorite when he saw Nate coming toward him. Scooting over on the couch to make room, he 'waved' hello with a forkful of cake. 'Hey, Nate. Did you want a seat?"
