Savannah grinned when she saw the birthday boy and she threw her arms around him and kissed his cheek. "Happy birthday," she said, letting go, but still smiling brightly.
She looked at the table with the food. "Is this what you wanted? I wasn't sure and you didn't tell me, so I picked a little of everything to cover all of our bases." The cakes had been fun to buy, though. "Why do you have to pick?" she asked. "It's your birthday and you can have everything, so take a slice of each and take a spoonful of each. Then you can properly decide where to start."
She squeezed his arm. "I know it's not like being home, but I hope it makes it a little better."
