RP: Wake for John and Savannah
Who: Everyone at the base
Where: 114 Sterling Drive
When: November 3, 2012
Summary: Brian does his best to send off two people everyone loved.

The email about housing had given him the idea. Brian had asked Derek to leave the extra couch set in his old house. A dining set from Deeks was brought over as well as extra chairs from Nell's. A chair was being used to set up the computer with the light program. The lights had been brought over from the lounge and the dining room had been turned into a club. Brian didn't know if people would use it, didn't care, but there should have been music and lights. John and Savannah hadn't been musicians, but they had contributed just as much to the club, in all of its versions.

The sitting room had been turned into a fairy land. Brian hadn't had much time, only a day, so he'd resorted to fabric and wall decorations used for nurseries. There wasn't as much pink as he'd have used for Savannah alone, but there was the Magic castle and princes and princesses spread all around. The food and drinks were on the table. Brian hadn't bothered asking people for things, but had ordered from different places creating the weirdest combination of foods, but he'd tried to hit everything either Savannah or John liked (not that John was picky, but then there were things that Brian had enjoyed watching John eat).

With everything set up, Brian could finally sit down on the steps staring his own private party. If he were lucky, his liver would give out before he could sober up.

Sitting, Margaret spared a brief thought for how easy it wouldn't be to get up again. But, she'd tackle that when it came around. Until then, she took the joint when he passed it and took her own hit. She passed the joint back to him. Years of dealing with TJ had taught her timing. Angry young men didn't respond well to platitudes. Luckily, she didn't offer any. "Don't tell my daughter, but this is the reason my second husband's funeral is just a blur in my mind."

Not that she'd been as in love with Dale as these two young men had been. Oh, she'd cared about him and she'd been sad when he died. But, it was a quiet sort of caring and not the wild, passionate, love affair. "Come to think of it, he wouldn't have approved, either. Somehow, Elaine was always more like her step-father than anyone."

"She's smart. I doubt she doesn't know," he said, taking the joint back. "First funeral. unless you count all the idiots that got themselves killed since we got here. Or my father. Now, that a real party." The bastard had deserved to die. Unlike John who still had his entire life in front of him.

He took a hit, before handing it back to her and reaching for the whiskey. "Damn fucking shame. You're a lot more fun than your daughter. She's so fucking boring... like John." Why the fuck wouldn't he even name John without his eyes watering? He was better than this; he could control his emotions like a pro. Until now. "I've been so fucking pissed with him, over a fucking costume to wear at a party we didn't even go to." He brought the bottle to his lips and took a healthy (or unhealthy depending on the point of view) dose, letting the burn wash away the much deeper pain he was feeling.

"Doesn't mean we have to tell her." Margaret was sure Elaine was well aware of all her bad habits. Heaven knew the press was. "Eh, they don't count if the people didn't matter."

Taking the joint back, Margaret shrugged. "My own fault for naming her after my mother, probably." Another hit and then she passed it back. "Loved my mother but the woman would have had me married off to some mechanic and stuck in Needles the rest of my life if given her druthers. My daughter has her own dreams, though. They're not mine, but they're what she wants. And I'm not my mother, even if she may wish I was sometimes. Fewer things to do damage control on later."

She'd been watching the group rather than Brian as she spoke. But, now she turned to look at him. "Oh, Sugar, no one gets out of this life without regrets, no matter how hard we try. And no amount of words from me are going to make that better, so I won't insult you by trying. But, I wonder what he'd tell you if he could hear you right now. Never struck me as the guilt trip type, your John."

"I'm not getting up to talk to her," he said in a monotone voice. He had no intention of getting up and talking to anyone. If it weren't for Margaret, he'd be happy not to talk to anyone even while sitting. "Exactly, so I really never went to a funeral.... Actually no. My best friend's uncle. He had AIDS. God, it's like a lifetime ago."

Brian took the joint back. Listening to Margaret ramble about this shit was distracting, in a good way. "You don't have to worry about damage control here. You fuck up and you die. You don't fuck up and you still die. Or you're like me, doing whatever the fuck you want and don't die."

He took another sip of whiskey before taking a hit. He knew this was so fucking bad. He needed uppers, but as he didn't want to wipe out the pain, not yet. John deserved better. "I wasn't trying, hard or otherwise. I'm the one who's always said no excuses, no apologies, no regrets. John was the one to apologize, to feel regrets. Not that I think he gave a shit about the costumes, but we spent the last week he had with me being a nasty bastard More so than usual. It's not regret; it's anger. He shouldn't have been there, wherever there is."
