RP: Wake for John and Savannah
Who: Everyone at the base
Where: 114 Sterling Drive
When: November 3, 2012
Summary: Brian does his best to send off two people everyone loved.

The email about housing had given him the idea. Brian had asked Derek to leave the extra couch set in his old house. A dining set from Deeks was brought over as well as extra chairs from Nell's. A chair was being used to set up the computer with the light program. The lights had been brought over from the lounge and the dining room had been turned into a club. Brian didn't know if people would use it, didn't care, but there should have been music and lights. John and Savannah hadn't been musicians, but they had contributed just as much to the club, in all of its versions.

The sitting room had been turned into a fairy land. Brian hadn't had much time, only a day, so he'd resorted to fabric and wall decorations used for nurseries. There wasn't as much pink as he'd have used for Savannah alone, but there was the Magic castle and princes and princesses spread all around. The food and drinks were on the table. Brian hadn't bothered asking people for things, but had ordered from different places creating the weirdest combination of foods, but he'd tried to hit everything either Savannah or John liked (not that John was picky, but then there were things that Brian had enjoyed watching John eat).

With everything set up, Brian could finally sit down on the steps staring his own private party. If he were lucky, his liver would give out before he could sober up.

Marty didn't say anything about Kensi. He hadn't been in love with her, but he'd cared about her and he didn't want to think about the fact she wasn't here or that it was her little boy having an enthusiastic conference with his little girls in baby-ese. "Check. Check. And, check. Got all those."

Robert's words hit home with a lot of the things he'd already been thinking himself. He knew what happened when one parent was gone and the other lost all sense of things. He couldn't do that to his girls. He couldn't do it to any child, but especially not his little princesses. "Yeah, I know. They need me to be here, not stuck in the past."

For the first time in two days he caught himself almost smiling. "You should have seen the look of shock when she realized I was going to cook breakfast for her the first time." And even though he smiled, he could feel his eyes watering and he blinked, looking away until he could get under control again. "Damn. Sorry."

"You know all that shit they tell you about time making things better, about getting easier. It's all bullshit. Two years later, a dimension away and it still hurts like hell," he said softly.

"That's right. You show them the future and when you need to remember the past, then you come to us, and you can talk about her, remember her, get drunk in her name," he said. "We will be there, because we do understand."

Robert smiled a little, before sliding a little closer and putting a hand on Deeks' shoulder. He squeezed gently. "It's fine. I understand."

"Good to know I won't be too weird about it, then." Because Marty was pretty sure it would never stop hurting. There would always be this sharp pain where part of his heart was ripped out and turned to ash in a butterfly urn.

Emotions dammed up once more, he took a breath and nodded. "Thanks. I appreciate, man." Watching his girls, he found himself wishing Ray was there. Ray knew Marty better than anyone but Savannah. He knew what being a father meant to him, what fears lurked behind the smile. And, yet, he was grateful for people like Robert and Sam, too. "Maybe a beer sometime."

Getting drunk over this was a minefield he intended to avoid.

"Oh I'm sure plenty of people would say we're weird." He smiled a little. "I'm sure your wife would have been the first to tell us, with a lot of words, little breath and a few y'all. She never understood that she could love the world while the rest of us are just human."

Robert nodded. "A beer, sometimes." He didn't move, didn't say anything else. He stayed there, watching the kids. Deeks could talk when he wanted or stay silent. Robert would stay here to keep him company until he went to see G again.
