RP: Halloween Party
Who: Public (add your tags)
Where: Team Lounge
When: October 31, 2012
Summary: They have a Halloween party despite everything

They were a resourceful group, that was sure. Even in his bad mood, Brian went with her and Tim to get decorations. They ended up with a lot more than Alexis had planned at cheaper prices. Brian was a master at doing this.

Cheap orange and black fabric covered all the walls. They had gotten a few dollar plastic pumpkins, webs, a skeleton, food, Halloween bowls and cups. She hadn't even spent close to the six hundred dollars she had collected. She was so going to put that aside for Thanksgiving or whatever other party they would have.

Sean had taken care of the music. John had helped with the lights. Everyone had helped setting up, moving things around so that people could sit and talk on one side of the room, or dance on the opposite side.

It wasn't anywhere as exciting as Webster Hall, but it was a party. They could have fun.

Margaret and Elaine

Elaine had been listening, mostly because she knew that yelling at the only doctor while her husband was sick wouldn't get her mother treated, but when April's interest shifted, Elaine dismissed her.

"Mother, are you all right? Did you drink anything, take anything?" April might think powers, but she knew her family, and it wouldn't put it past any of them. "Are you feeling better now? Shortness of breath, double vision, problems with your left arm?" She was throwing both symptoms for a stroke and a heart attack, but she wasn't a doctor and their doctor seemed more interested in jumping to conclusions. "Perhaps we should go for tests."

"Not enough," Margaret replied with a snort. She was tired, but she didn't feel sick. "No, no, none of that. I'm fine, honey. Momentary dizziness, that's all." Peering into the cup of whiskey, she frowned. "I only had two or three sips. It shouldn't have made me woozy."

She did feel fine now, which was puzzling. Just tired. Very tired, as if she'd been doing some of those exercises Mr. Hanna put the youngsters through. But, the rest seemed to have passed.

Elaine try to scowl, but she ended up smiling, because her mother sounded normal. "I'm sorry that something cut into your drinking." She looked at the glass and she knew that her mother could have a lot more than a sip or two of whiskey.

"That's what worries me, Mother. You shouldn't be dizzy with even a glass of whiskey," she pointed out. "Maybe we should go to a hospital, with real doctors, to make sure what happened."

"I don't need a doctor. Dizzy spells happen. I'm fine." Turning her head, she pointed a finger at the friend who'd provided the whiskey. "Unless there's something in there you aren't sharing, young man."

Nate smiled at the comment even as he was helping Eliot up. "No such luck, especially not something that causes dizziness, I assure you," he said. Eliot was unsteady, but he was helping him towards the door.

April watched them leave, then turned to Margaret. She still thought he'd be better off at home, where he could be comfortable, but for now she needed to focus on Margaret for a while.

"I don't think you need to worry about there being something in your drink," she said with a smile. "Eliot hasn't had eyes in well over a year, now he does. Something happened that affected you both."

"How are you feeling now?" she asked as she turned her attention back to the other woman. "Is your strength returning? Any lingering side effects other than the tiredness?" she asked. "Would you mind terribly if I examined you again? We can move somewhere else where we have more privacy if you prefer."

"How many times do I have to say I'm fine?" Margaret huffed irritably. "For God's sake. Checking my pulse a second time isn't going to tell you anything other than my heart rate rises when I get annoyed. A little tiredness at my age is normal. Dizzy spells happen and it's passed. Honestly, a man grows eyes and you're here fussing over a little dizzy spell? What is wrong with you people?"

Standing up, she glared at pretty much everyone hovering around. "There. Standing. Steady. And walking away now." Without that whiskey. That young man might say there's nothing in it. But, a few sips and weird things happened. "When you've finished guessing about what happened, you can find me keeping company with someone who doesn't ask silly questions that have already been answered."

If she was lucky, she'd find Brian had something more fun than alcohol on him.
