"I think you're as contrary as I'm usually accused of being," TJ returned with a chuckle of his own. Pursing his lips, he nodded. He didn't know why he trusted Travis. But, he believed him.
TJ paused long enough to slide out of his sweats again because he really did hate to sleep in them. When he moved closer to Travis, however, instead of rolling into the other man's embrace he wormed his arm around Travis' shoulders. It put his hand at the perfect position to gently massage Travis' neck and try to relieve some of the pain from Travis' headache. Really, it was the only thing he could really think of that might help. He really wasn't good at this sort of thing. He wasn't sure if Travis would really talk to him or if he'd get more of the same and so he was a bit surprised when the other man actually started to talk.
But, he listened. And when Travis was finished, he stayed quiet for a long time, he fingers running in soothing circles over the muscles in Travis' neck as he digested the words. It took longer because he was trying not to react to the bit at the end. They were still talking about him. "And here I thought your only physical flaw was wanting women instead of me," he teased gently, kissing Travis forehead. "They only love us when they're not too busy hating us. I used to think it was just my family that applied to. But, it's people in general, isn't it? They're so busy hating us for being different for whatever reason, your skin, my sexuality, too much money, not enough money. You should have had my life. At least the money. I wouldn't wish my parents on anyone. But, you could have had college if you wanted." Travis probably would have made more of the opportunities than TJ ever had. He'd dreamt of different things than his parents wanted to give. "You do have incredible eyes, though. Not because they're so blue. But because there's something about them that makes a person want to trust you, even if they don't think they want to. Probably why all those people want to be your friends and lovers. They get drawn in by your eyes."
Biting his lip, he watched Travis for another silent moment. "I'm really not good at this. I feel like I should say I'm sorry that you had to grow up like that. But, I don't know if that's insulting or not."
He'd keep the rest of his thoughts to himself, though, not wanting to start another fight over who's life was the more tragic, or who was luckier. He didn't think they'd ever agree on that because no one really saw the things that were wrong with other people's lives just by looking in from the outside. Even in a bubble, it was easy to hide the reality.
