Hetty nodded. "Ryan Becker. We'll get you new IDs, badges, biometrics, etc. over the next two or three days. You will have to retake the qualifications test to carry your firearm, and we ask that you always carry it when you leave the base. There is also physical and self-defense training, some bookwork as well to keep everyone up to speed on the differences present in this world. Once you've qualified and gotten underway with training, we'll assign you to one of the two investigative teams. Mr. Callen is in charge for training, Mr. Hanna assisting with self-defense. The two teams are under Mr. Callen and a man named Peter Burke who comes to us from the FBI. We'll make sure to get you introduced to him as well."
The story was, perhaps, how others might have wished their own reality to have gone. Not the loss of Sam, though Hetty could well imagine that man doing such a thing...and the devastation that loss would cause. Nodding when the young man came back to her, she smiled. "No, he is not very different in that respect. But, I caution you, Mr. Vail, not to put too high a stock in what you believe of people based on the version you know. If anything, that is the lesson this experience teaches. Circumstances change people." She grew silent for a moment, remembering the days after Dom's funeral, the conversations with Callen and Leon about her attempted departure. "It was not easy, no. The Dominic Vale I knew was a very special young man. I have no doubt that trait remains the same.
"Now," she said briskly, clearing her throat, w"e have much still to do. I'd like to compare our versions of your history, for one thing. At this stage we do not know what informational differences between your dimension and mine might be necessary to get use home correctly in the future. And, it will also help each of us to know what the others will expect so there are no nasty surprises. Normally, we would also take new arrivals to meet Mr. Callen and Mr. Hanna to get settled with their training. However, under the circumstances, I will leave the decision with you. We can take you to see them today and then get you settled. Another option is to get you settled and put off seeing them until tomorrow. Additionally, we can arrange for either option to include the entire team, if you are feeling especially brave. The choice is yours, Mr. Vale."
