RP: Travis and the Hammond twins
Who: Travis, TJ and Doug
Where: a cheap hotel outside of Pittsburgh
When: morning, October 6, 2012
Summary: It's time to make decisions
They had arrived to Pittsburgh late on Thursday night. Travis had already looked at hotels and knew that they were not going to pay the prices inside the city. Instead he opted for a motel outside of the city for $60 a night, as opposed to the close to $300 in the city. If TJ had complained about the decor at Disney, Travis didn't even want to know what he thought about the cheap room they had, but it came with free parking, wifi and breakfast. Travis considered it a win
The next day was spent driving and walking around the city, getting a sense of where things were, where they could get jobs. The internet was great, but no amount of surfing could really give you the knowledge you needed to make a believable cover for two people who'd always been in the public eye.
Friday morning, after breakfast, they went back to their room. Travis sat on his bed. "Okay, guys, I'd like to be out of here by tomorrow if possible, which means that we have to make decisions. We have three options. We get a house on the South side. Pros: we can get it cheap, with three bedrooms, very low key. Cons: It's very low key and very conservative. TJ, you'll never be able to be out there. It's not going to happen. It's too risky. If we go there, you stay firmly in the closet while there. Also, we'd have to commute to work since it's residential, and with one car, that might be a bitch.
"I've eliminated Bedford Dwellings because it's too black, while Oakland is too white." Black population according to census was of 11 people. Travis didn't look forward to explaining why he was living there. "The other two solutions are Downtown or the Strip.
"Downtown is where we saw the Market Place apartments. They are slightly cheaper, but they want a month security, and once the offices and clubs close at night, you need to be very careful. Also, while it's more open minded than most of Pittsburgh, it's still Pennsylvania, which is a pretty red neck state. Downtown is hip and trendy when things are open, but you'll have to be careful if you want to be out." If it weren't for the fact that all the states with lenient gun laws were red neck states, Travis wouldn't be caught dead in Pittsburgh. "The Strip is the other possibility, but the apartments we saw are pretty expensive. On the other hand, they only want $500 deposit and they have month to month leases. It's a very mixed area and a few blocks from Liberty Avenue so being out is fine. The big downside is that we can't afford a three bedroom apartment there. There's no way we can pay close to $4000 with no jobs. The two bedroom is more reasonable, but if we do that, we are changing our covers."
He wondered if they were considering that part or they stopped at how small the place was. "We need a pretty good reason why three grown men, from very different backgrounds are living together, and we need to keep it simple enough that we can live it, that you'll never slip. You two is easy, you're brothers, but why me? I have an idea, but before we even go there, TJ, what's your feeling about where we live? You're the one who will be most affected."
