"Of course he cares, of course he'd prefer them safe," April said. "But they're not dependent on him the same way a baby is." She shook her head.
"I'm not comparing myself to them, or at least that's not what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to say that as parents they too will try to protect their children with any means possible. I'm not even saying I'm not a coward, I know I'm scared, terrified even. That hasn't changed because we decided to stay. I'm still as scared as I was before."
"I'm not asking you to agree with me, but I'm hoping that with time you can understand, at least to some extent. I do still want to be a friend."
