Re: Sam/Kensi
Sam got into the car and turned on the engine. He put on the radio and waited for Kensi to put her seat belt on before pulling out. A trip around the base wasn’t the point of this little outing though. “You know me and you know how little I say about the team, but there are things you need to know. When we got here, it was just me, G, Hetty and the Director. We didn’t know if there’d be more. It wasn’t easy to come to terms with the fact that we might never see anyone we know. Slowly people arrived. Everyone else worked for the federal government one way or another, except for Savannah. She was debriefed by Hetty, who can deal with agents, but doesn’t know how to deal with normal twenty-one year olds. Things got bad, Savannah isolated herself. We all did, really. We never thought about her. Yes, I know she’s an adult, but she’s also a virgin student from a strict religious family that her turned its back on her for choosing to leave a Christian school; she’s a girl who’s never seen the world, suddenly in a military base with rules that she didn’t understand. She thought she’d been kidnapped.
“When she finally realized that it was real and she was stuck here forever, she jumped off a ten story building. She didn’t just try to kill herself; she did it, except that her powers activate and she was fine at least physically.” There was no point in mentioning that Deeks had been the one that had convinced her that this was real. “That’s when G finally spoke to her for the first time. He tried to help her; he did help her. She helped him, too. She gave him a purpose, a team. She wasn’t the only one this bad, Kensi. We all were.”
Sam looked at her for a moment, before focusing on the road again. “Savannah has worked her ass off to please G, martial arts, gun qualifications, but she’s not an agent, not like you. She’s still a girl who works on a very different level than the rest of us. She’s right that G or any of us will never treat her the same, because she isn’t the same. She still thinks that a hug and a kiss will make everything better.” He smiled as he said that. “She’s got an innocent that has done everyone good. Having said that, she’s still very insecure and when she feels threatened, she strikes back and she becomes very competitive. You know those cat fights you see in college; that’s it. She’s tried to pull that crap with me and G if we’ve said anything about Deeks. He can do no wrong in her eyes, even though he’s put her through a lot of stuff, but he cares for her, and he is a better man around her. He’s also finally got his head straight and he’s showing that he’s an agent, too.”
He parked the car, not too far from the house. Colonel’s Row was empty considering that just they and the Army CO lived there. “I’m telling you all of this, because things are very different from four months ago. We are different. It won’t be easy, but you are part of this team, and we are going to stick together. I’m also going to tell you what I told G. Savannah has been forced to become an agent, but she’s still a girl who’s your worst enemy today and will hug you in the morning, because you’re BFF. She’s a girl who wants to be reassured that she’s going to be left alone again.” He reached over and caressed her cheek. “And you are our tough agent who’s braver and stronger than most men. You two are very different, but we all need to stick together. I know she rubbed you the wrong way, but give her a chance and you’ll see that she’s not so bad. You might really become BFF,” he said with an amused smile. “She’ll take you shopping, do your nails and teach you cheer routines, do your hair together. Oh, and I’m pretty sure that she thinks she’s marrying Deeks, so I’d go easy there, unless you want to help her plan the bachelorette party.”
