Re: Derek/John/Anyone
"I think she is a topic of conversation to save for later, somewhere other than here." John knew they'd never agree on Cameron or the machines. It was why he kept his own council on his views of the machines and the war. He talked to Brian a bit, but even Brian didn't get told everything. Things had changed. His world might not even need John Conner anymore now that they had Derek Reese so ready to take over in his absence. But, John wasn't going to assume he was safe until they got home and he saw the board they were playing on now.
And he wasn't going to argue about Cameron here when he was getting his first real chance to know his uncle.
"Like you said, he was changed. I was changed. The situation was changed." John shrugged. It was a good play and there had been a chance it would work. But, while John had the normal teenage boy reactions to a hot girl and he felt a form of affection for her, he hadn't loved her the way he might have been supposed to do. He hadn't loved Riley, either, though he'd really wanted to until he knew the truth.
"You'd have loved directing my training while I grew up," he continued with a laugh. "Mom didn't too badly there, though. I think, if we could have done what was needed without going to the city, she would have stayed in the jungle. Fewer complications. I didn't mean rebelling, though. There were times when I really didn't think she cared. I stopped believing in her sometimes. She never stopped believing in me, but there were moments I doubted her." Trying to shake off the melancholy mood, he smiled. "Right. Mexico it is."
