"Thank you for allowing us our expectations." TJ laughed. The phrasing sounded so much like giving permission, even though he suspected it wasn't supposed to. But, he wasn't given much time to think about it because he was too busy being surprised at the insight that followed and having to hide it.
Maybe that was why he actually gave a mostly honest and sincere answer.
"It's not that it won't happen, but that it can't. Would it be nice to forget about all of that for a while? Do the things I never would be able to at home because there's no one watching here? Yes. But, it can't happen. There are people watching, the same people whose expectations have determined my entire life. And those will be the same people who go back home with me if we ever get out of here. They will take back the memory everything I do here and it still needs to measure up to their standards because that is all they will accept."
