It had also been the result of guilt. Doug had been feeling guilty for Susan and a wedding should have ended everything, but it had been just the beginning of a string of infidelities. He followed her gaze and wondered if he and Ann had looked like that. Probably. He was good at lying and hiding what he felt.
Doug didn't know what the correct answer was and he was aware that every question was a test, even without meaning. "It's hard not to enjoy rest, good food and alcohol," he said diplomatically. "I would enjoy it more if my wife were here, but I'd rather be home campaigning for the election."
