Summary: Troy still hasn't asked Nell to be his witness and it's time to remedy that
Preparing a wedding wasn't as stressful as people made it out to be. Preparing a Jewish wedding from a school in the middle of WASP-y Vermont with no stores in sight was slightly more difficult. Troy had tried to focus on the things that required time. The ketubah and the chuppah had been his first concern, because it took time to print a ketubah and they also needed their vows ready to be printed. It wasn't like they could change their minds later. The chuppah was another interesting purchase. Nothing felt right until he started to think outside the box and found something that was as much part of Sean as it was of himself and his heritage.
That was what he realized as they made decision. This wasn't about Judaism and God, or at least not just about those things. Troy would be the first to admit that he'd barely gone to temple once he was away from his mother. No, it was about the traditions that linked him to his past and his community. It was as much religious as it was about a sense of personal history. He also realized that he didn't give a shit about things unless they had some deeper meaning. Flowers, music, clothes, he only cared because he knew that they meant something to Sean; otherwise, he would have been happy with a regular suit, a keg, some pizza and whatever the radio was playing.
This dawning proved that he was right with his unorthodox choice for Best Man. There were plenty of guys he could have asked, but no one meant to him as much as Nell and now that things had been ordered, he could finally do the things that involved the people here.
After training, he showered before Sean and then went downstairs to find Nell. There were people there, not that it stopped Troy. He plopped down next to her and rested his head on her should. "Riveting work," he said, not really looking at her computer screen. If it was classified, she'd have closed the lid, and classified or not, Troy would bet that it was still boring. "I have something to ask you." He turned his head and looked at her. "It's about the wedding. Since you're so tiny and youthful looking, I was wondering if you wanted to be the flower girl," he said with a grin.
