Summary: Claudia is introduced to the new-new reality
Claudia was exhausted by the time they arrived at a place that looked like a school, some state unknown. She knew they flew for a while. She also knew that while a few slept on the plane, most remained on edge. She'd kept quiet the whole trip and no one bothered her.
Alexis had shown her the bathroom (thank heavens!) and to a room in what was called the residence building. It looked kind of like a dorm out of the movies. She hadn't been in one before, even when hunting Artifacts, though she'd been to a number of boarding schools and colleges. She was mostly glad that there was a bed, and she hit it as soon as she locked herself in the room. She'd just have to hope anyone wanting to kill her was asleep, too.
Morning came with light through the window. Her watch told her it was 8:30 in the morning. Way too early to be up. But the early bird caught the worm, which was why she had a rotten taste in her mouth.
She washed up as best she could in the restroom, used someone's toothpaste on her finger to brush her teeth, and cursed that her bag was taken so should couldn't fix her unwashed hair. Combing her fingers through it was as best as it was going to get.
With the tesla bomb still in her jacket sleeve for easy access, she ventured downstairs, taking a quick peek at the second floor before going down to the first. She could hear voices and followed them until she found a living room-like area with a few people sitting around. They stopped talking as she paused in the doorway and said, "Morning."
One of the men rose from the couch with a teacher-like smile on his face, the kind you didn't know if it meant good or bad news after you'd turned in your history term paper written in binary. "Good morning, Ms. Donovan. Let's take a walk," he said.
Claudia shrugged. "Sure. I'm always up for a stroll with strangers in a strange place."
Not too pleased with the binary, Claudia surmised by the response, and she followed him out of the residence and onto the grounds. Now that it was day again, she got the chance to see where she was. It looked like a small boarding school. Not too many places to hide an Artifact, or to work as a base from to search for the Artifact if they didn't have it.
