RP: April and Eliot
Who:April and Eliot
Where:Their room
When:Before bedtime, August 17
Summary: April and Eliot talk about birthdays

While April knew that Eliot could probably list things with puff pastries off the top of his head faster than she could find it online, she still needed to write the list for Savannah to chose from, so after returning from the common room, April turned on her computer.

She changed while the computer loaded, then sat down on the bed with it. "I thought we could do that list for Savannah," she told Eliot. "The faster we can get it to her the faster she can pick. We also need to think about what to give her."

"A crown," Eliot stated, dropping his jeans in the laundry bag. His dirty socks followed. "You know, like one of those kinds you get from Burger King."

Cody was lying in front of the door, snoring away already. Eliot grabbed his sleep shorts and put them on. He checked that everything necessary was packed in his bug out bag before climbing into bed beside her.

"I hope you're thinking of giving her something more than just that," April said with a chuckle. "And if we're doing that we should get two, one for Marty after all."

She smiled at him when he climbed into bed, moving so that she could rest against him as she typed, her laptop in her lap. "Now gift first, list second, and I'm not doing a search when I know you know this off the top of your head."

"Uh, no?" Eliot arched a brow. "Savannah said paper, I thought Burger King crowns, and that's about it. Why does she need to get more than that?"

"It's her birthday, she's having a party, it's customary to give a gift, especially if you are friends," she said, and one day she wouldn't need to explain such things to him. "If it was Nate's party, wouldn't you get him something?"

She leaned up and kissed his cheek. "It doesn't have to be big, but a bit more than a paper crown. If you want to go with the paper theme we can though. I'm sure we can find something."And the list could wait until they'd decided on the gift.

"We didn't get any on our birthdays," Eliot said, which sounded kind juvenile and he shook his head. "Never mind. Yeah, I'd get something for Nate in this world. We didn't really do birthdays back home." All of them were alone for so long that birthdays stopped having meaning, other than you were a year older.

"We didn't have parties, either of us," April pointed out. "We had picnics, and I wouldn't have traded them for any gifts in the world." She stroked his face then leaned up and kissed his cheek. "Next year, I'll throw you a party." She thought it was sad that they'd never celebrated birthdays. Things deserved to be celebrated.

"Well we're here, so now you can give him a gift. When is his birthday? I'll throw the party, you'll cook, you'll get him the gift. I won't even interfere with your choice," she added teasingly.

"Now back to Savannah, who is having a party, so gift?" She typed in paper gifts into the computer to see what would pop up online.

"I don't know when Nate's birthday is," Eliot said. "It's never come up in conversation." Why would it? Eliot wasn't one to pry into someone's life. That'd been Hardison's and Sophie's jobs.

"How about something for her hair? To go with the crown, but, you know, useful and girly."

"You don't know?" April turned so that she could look at him clearly. "How can you not know? How many years have you known him? There has never been a 'happy birthday' or I don't know, something." It felt wrong that he shouldn't know. "If you don't know, you need to ask him, or I will. Maybe it's better if I do it. Then you don't have to admit that you don't know."

April nodded. "I'll see what I can find." She specified her search and started browsing through what she found.

"I've never asked, and no there hasn't been a 'happy birthday' or anything. I told you that we didn't do birthdays." Eliot folded his arms. "You don't need to sound so affronted by it. Not everyone cares about their birthday."

"Says the man who not two seconds ago pointed out that we didn't get gifts for the birthdays we didn't celebrate with the rest of the team," she said with matter of fact voice. "Which is another way of saying, yes they do," April said. "Even the ones who don't like their birthdays care about them, not for the days itself but because it's a time when people tell them that they've noticed. They pay attention. They care."

"You never even seen his driver's license? A passport? A note in the calendar? Never mind, I'll ask tomorrow. With Savannah's coming up I have the perfect excuse to ask."

She looked back at the screen. "There is a surprising amount of accessories made from paper, some are quite stunning." It was a shame that Eliot couldn't see.

"That was about the gifts not about the birthdays." Eliot scowled slightly. "And you had to tell me it was my birthday, so yeah, there are people who don't care about them."

"But you wouldn't be asking about the gift if there was no birthday," April said. She put the laptop to the side for a moment and moved to straddle Eliot's lap with her arms resting on his shoulders. "You didn't remember, but you liked that I did, didn't you?" she asked, leaning her forehead against his.

She kissed him. "Don't worry about it, I'll ask, I'll tell you, you can pretend you knew all along."

"Well, yeah, but I like everything you do. Biased opinion." Eliot flashed her a quick quirk of a smile.

"You can ask, I can admit not knowing, and we'll do something when the time comes."

She smiled. "Well that's mutual," she answered, taking the time to kiss him a bit more. She chuckled as he went on. "If that's your wish," she said with a smile.

"Now we still need to get a present for Savannah, and list food that fits her theme, and if we do that quickly enough we could make the most of the fact that we're not exhausted after night training tonight."
