RP: April, Eliot and Nate
Who:April, Eliot and Nate
Where: April and Eliot's room and outside
When: Sunday, August 12
Summary: April and Eliot try her powers a bit more

A few weeks had passed since Eliot first brought up flying with April, and while she was still not sure that she could ever learn how to fly, she was willing to give Eliot's ideas a try. Or at least the part of his ideas that gave them another escape route should the door out be blocked by soldiers in an attack.

In spite of that she was hesitating at the moment. Since they left the base she'd only done this a couple of times, and now that she was pregnant there was more at stake. Eliot had spoken about rigs and harnesses when they talked about it, but fact was that here the closest they got to anything that safe were the ropes and hooks that Sam had taught them to tie like a harness and given them access to when they asked. Of course the idea wasn't to rely on them, but to float, but so far April had floated from the ground up, not from the air down. She reminded herself that she'd done this before, and really shouldn't be nervous about it.

"I can't believe I'm about to jump out of our window," she said looking outside. "You're sure this thing is secure?" she asked. "I don't know if I can react fast enough to float when doing this." If she could though, she knew the benefits. They had another escape route, and would have a larger chance of keeping their child safe.

"You think I'd let you do this if I wasn't sure you'd be safe?" Eliot asked in return. He'd triple-checked all their secure points with the ropes and hooks. He also would be the one holding the other end of the line. She wouldn't be falling anywhere. "You're not trying to walk out the window like it was going into another room, anyway. You're trying to jump down very slowly. Pretend the sill is the ground and lift yourself from it before going forward and down."

They had food, water, and Cody being babysat down in the rec room with the gamers. April had on an extra layer of clothing to help protect her from rope burn. April's medical supplies were always in her go bag. Eliot could see immediately if she was hurt. They were as prepared as anyone could be. The only thing left to do was try.

Eliot checked his grip on the rope again, even though he knew it was secure. "Whenever you're ready."

April relaxed a bit, shaking her head. "No I don't," she said, standing on her toes and giving him a light kiss. "I'm just nervous that's all. It's been a while and well I wasn't pregnant the last time I did this, or rather I didn't know I was pregnant the last time I did this."

Looking at the sill, she thought about it. It was a good idea. "Okay, might as well just do it. It's not like I haven't jumped off buildings before." Which was certainly less than normal, but then they all were. Climbing up on the window sill, she looked at Eliot as she turned around and leaned backwards while holding her hands as they had been taught. "You do realize that in any normal situation, this is weird right?" she said with a small smirk, before levitating just slightly and pushing herself out of the window and into the air.

Pushing out when you weren't actually trying to go down felt similar to missing a step in a staircase and she yelped at the feeling. However, other than the small jolt, she floated, not needing the grip she had on the rope.

"Where I'm from, this is normal." Eliot chuckled. He was pleased when she didn't fall. It didn't stop him from holding the rope tightly, though. "Elevator for one, going down."

"What is normal where we're from?" Nate asked as he stopped by the room, looking for Eliot, smiling as he stepped inside through the open door. As he took in the scene he smiled. "Oh that," he said.

"Is there any reason why April is being turned into Parker for the day?"

"Practicality. Floating down from a window is a good skill to have, for evac. That, and it gives April a chance to use her powers." Eliot glanced at Nate. "What's going on?"

Nate dropping by didn't mean anything was up, but Eliot still asked. Eliot wasn't exactly used to people seeking out his company anymore. Nate's being around was both welcoming and out-of-sync with the norm.

"And just so you know, if this works well enough, it will be an elevator for two soon enough. I'm not leaving you behind." April said from outside the window. That was why she was doing this in the first place. To get another escape route for the two of them - or the three of them when the baby arrived. "And hi, Nate," she added.

"Hi, April," Nate answered with a smile, before addressing Eliot again. "Nothing much, which is why I came up looking for you," he said.

"So are we going down or are we just practicing hanging in the air today?"

"Up to her. I'm just the anchor." Eliot looked over to April, awaiting her decision.

April just rolled her eyes. "I suppose I better," she said, lowering herself slowly to the ground in a straight line. This part of her powers she trusted, she'd floated herself since she first discovered she could with Mike, and even if it made her tired if she went on for long it was basic, and less tiring than the things she was doing with G in training.

"Should I float back up too, or would you feel better if I used the stairs?" she called up as she stepped onto the ground. She felt confident that she could make it, but she didn't want to give Eliot a scare.

"Use the stairs. We're practicing down, not up. It'll conserve your energy longer," Eliot called back. He waited for the line to go slack and pulled the rope back up.

While she made the trip around to the door, Eliot leaned against the windowsill, facing Nate. "Coming up on three weeks since you got here. Any signs of insanity?"

"Other than not finding it the least bit strange watching you trying to turn your wife into Parker?" he asked, chuckling slightly. "Not really. I think I'm in too much pain to go insane on most days," he said, leaning against the dresser.

"I don't know if it's because I've been living more or less under the radar for the past nine months alone or because I still feel as if I'm gathering intel, but no, no insanity yet."

"How are you getting along?" he asked.

Eliot shrugged. "I keep myself occupied. I ironed things out with Savannah and the meals are changing since I'm around to keep an eye on things in the kitchen four days a week. Otherwise, I'm happy to steer clear of most everyone whenever I can. Less irritating that way."

Back home, he was the loner, the one who stayed clear of human contact while Eliot still had friends from his time in the army. Here he was the one trying to make contact while Eliot stayed on his own with the exception of a few people.

It was strange how things turned around. "You won't get any lectures from me," he said. "Your wife might drag you along to meet others, however. She seems to like people."

"She does. It's the only reason why I'm in the common room in the evenings. I'd just as soon not bother. We're together for survival purposes, not to make friends."

Eliot's opinion was colored by the fact that, when not working, he was surrounded by those who acted like children and those who'd made it pretty clear they didn't like him. He was friendly enough to those who felt like speaking with him. Making overtures himself certainly didn't lead anywhere.

"Things have changed since the base," he added. "Since Hardison and especially Parker died."

"You wouldn't bother with what?" April asked as she came into the room. "And really floating up would have been quicker."

When he mentioned Hardison and Parker though, her expression changed and she walked up to him and simply squeezed his hand.

Nate watched them, then simply said. "Forever is a long time to only survive. But I'm thinking you have at least two reasons to do more than that."

"And use up your energy faster," Eliot said, skipping the first question. He squeezed her hand in return, addressing Nate. "You guys don't count. Or rather, you guys are the reason for staying."

Well, there were the babies, too, and anyone else who needed his help. Then again, these folks were so trained now as units he was superfluous. Vance did right by tossing him into the office pool. Doing his own thing was probably the best for everyone - it kept him out from underfoot during the week and it was one less person they had to think about helping escape.

"Well thank you, although I wasn't referring to myself but to the next generation," he said with a smile.

April just smiled at him. "You know as well as I do that you want to protect people here," she said softly. "Not just us. And in the meantime I'll just make you socialize as much as I can."

"Now do we try again? And this time I want to add the go bag too,"
