"Well, I've told you what usually happens when I end up with country boys or hippies," John pointed out, chuckling softly. He didn't disagree much with Brian's assessment. Probably wouldn't use the word hate, unless they were talking country music. But, he was just as happy to be out of the the heart of the southwest. L.A. might be in the southwest geographically, but that didn't count. It was it's own world unto itself. One with real music and people who cared more about people than cattle. Or trees.
"A line I stole," he reminded Brian with a smile. It had been one of the first things Derek told him that truly resonated. Before Jesse had come back and Derek spent more time with her than at the house with them, Derek had said a lot of things that John took to heart. He started to say something about the anniversary, but got sidetracked by Brian's next suggestion and that was enough to bring the barest hint of heat to his face. "Is there whiskey or tequila involved?" he asked, thinking of Nell's birthday. "But, you didn't have to do all this, Brian. I wasn't expecting it when I brought it up. It was just to point out the time and how we're both changing."
