RP: April and Eliot
Who:April and Eliot
Where:Their room
When:After night training, July 30
Summary: April has a surprise for Eliot

All through today, April had been waiting for this moment. The new playlist in the nursery was slightly annoying, but she didn't much care about it and just went on with things like she used to, save for the quick trip to the infirmary to get what she needed.

After training, she hurried her shower and told Eliot that she had a surprise for him in their room. She knew she was edging on what was early, but she couldn't wait another moment before trying. When Eliot joined her she was still dressed in only her towel as she waited for him on their bed.

"Come here," she said, patting the bed next to her. "There is something I want to show you."

"Well, now," Eliot drawled, a slow smile curving his lips. "That's an invitation I don't plan to refuse."

He pulled back off his t-shirt that he'd put on, his hair damp from his shower, as he sauntered over to the bed. His mind and body were already on a fast-track towards the seedy side of the sheets.

Seeing that smile had her longing for just what he was thinking of. Just a glance, and she could imagine his strong arms around her and her body reacted instantly. Still she had something else in mind, and this was important, the rest could wait for a little while. She had no doubt they'd get to it in time.

Laughing softly, she let him get on the bed and take her into his arms before she lightly pushed him off. "That wasn't what I had in mind," she said. "Yet, at least," she added, letting her hand move over his chest before she forced herself to focus.

"I want you to listen to something," she said, taking the Doppler she'd brought and handed it to him. "Or rather, someone."

"We should be able to hear our baby's heartbeat sometime around now."

Eliot was all set to convince April otherwise until she mentioned the baby. He perked. "Yeah?" He took the thing April gave him. After studying it until he was able to see it clearer, to him it looked like a walkie talkie with a microphone attached. "What am I supposed to do? Sing to the kiddo?"

Eliot held up the mic and began to sing a country tune in a low voice. "So let them be little, 'cause they're only that way for a while. Give 'em hope, give them praise, give them love every day. Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle, let 'em sleep in the middle. Oh, but let them be little."

Now that just made her laugh, even as she leaned up and kissed him. "No, silly, the microphone is for the baby to sing in," she teased taking it from him and turning the Doppler on.

She'd opened the towel as he held it, and now put the microphone against her stomach. At first there was nearly nothing, until she found the right spot. When she did she smiled, raising the volume on the Doppler until the sound of tiny fast heartbeats was loud enough.

"That's our baby," she told him. He might not be able to look at the monitors with her, but this, this she could share with him.

The sound was muffled, and fast, but Eliot was able to hear it. An expression of wonder crossed his face. "Oh wow." He listened longer, and the wonder became a huge smile of joy. "That's our baby."

"That's our baby," April confirmed, almost as in love with the expression on his face as the sound of their child. "His or her heart is only going to get stronger and easier to hear from now on out."

"Now aren't you glad I made you wait with what you had in mind?" she teased. It wasn't as if they didn't have time for both.

"I don't know...," Eliot teased, but he couldn't stop grinning like a fool. He squinted at her belly (not that squinting made a difference with his sight), trying to find the baby hiding behind organs and contrasted against the brightness of April's skeleton. "C'mon, kiddo, where're you at? You'd think I'd be able to spot you easily."

April chuckled. "It might help if I move this," she said, putting away the Doppler. "He or she should about 20 mm long, or three quarters of an inch," she said. "And somewhere here," she pointed.

"The bones should have begun to form, try to spot them first," she suggested. It was the first version of this eyesight he'd gotten, and most likely the easiest one for him to focus on.

Three-quarters of an inch was pretty dang small, and April had a lot of stuff inside her. It wasn't like Eliot practiced examining people's innards regularly, or at all. Granted, he looked over April more often than probably healthy, but she was his wife and he wanted her to stick around for a long while.

"I think... there... no." Eliot scowled. He thought he'd seen something for a second, but then it disappeared. "It would be nice if this power were more useful." And did what he wanted it to do, right now. Closing his eyes, he mushed his face against her belly and grumbled inaudibly.

April chuckled. "Where did you look when you saw Savannah's" she asked. "Just try to remember, and do the same thing. She was less pregnant than I am." Then again there had been two of them.

"Or you know, you can just stay down there for other reasons," she said teasingly, even if she completely blushed as she said it.

Eliot wasn't one to whinge, but he wanted to see the baby damn it. Maybe he was trying too hard. Or maybe he hadn't had a thousand and one layers of organs to get through when he'd seen Savannah's kids, as his sight wasn't settled as it was now.

The second suggestion went right to his other head. The baby wasn't going anywhere, and he had a naked April spread in front of him. It was time to get his priorities back in order. He lightly bit her belly before dipping his tongue in her navel. "Now that I can do without any problems," he said before continuing to trail his tongue downward to get to work on those other reasons.
