Eliot forewent any pretenses now, and made proper introductions. "April, this is the Nate I've mentioned from back home, part and parcel with Parker, Hardison, and Sophie. And Nate, this-" Eliot put his arm around April with a beaming smile, "-is my wife, April, who's also the resident doctor and all around best thing in any reality. 'Cept for the baby on its way."
It was the first time Eliot got to share the news with someone he actually cared about knowing. And Nate was family and that made it all the more worthwhile. Eliot released April only to give Nate another hard hug. "God, man, it's good to see you, you would not believe."
They didn't have any chairs, so Eliot leaned against their dresser and April alit where she pleased. Cody tried to get some attention from Nate.
"All right, truth as I know it. April, chime in where I'm wrong. This isn't a con. This is a different world with an idiotic government doing experiments that caused rifts that people get caught in and dumped here. So far as I know, we've got three sets of worlds represented in this group: ours, Baum and Derek's, and Vail's. There's a chunk of agents, a chunk of kids becoming agents, April, Kinney, and me. We used to have more of my kind here, including Parker and Hardison, but they all died off under various circumstances, mainly bad.
"This world's government is out to get us, so that's not so different than home." Eliot huffed a soft laugh. "We're in hiding until the geniuses of the group can figure out how to get us back home again. It's slow going. I've been here a year, April longer than that, and the first to cross over close to two years.
"This is one of those stick together or head out on your own type deals. I've been sticking it out, though it's damned hard. If I hadn't lost my eyes, I'd have been gone with Parker last year. Now there's a certain crazy woman who decided to marry me keeping me here." He couldn't help but beam another smile at April.
