Summary: Ash goes to see how Savannah is doing.

Boredom was driving her crazy, but when she wasn't bored, she was in pain, so she couldn't win. Her back hurt almost nonstop. She was sure that those kids were learning to play soccer with her bladder and her cervix. The contractions came and went, usually bring about a few hours of absolute stillness, which told her that they had changed into water.

Sunday weren't that bad, because she had everyone around, but the weekdays were impossibly horrid, especially on Mondays with Marty gone too. At least Sean, Troy and Nell came around to keep her company (or keep an eye on her. She was aware that everyone was worrying that there might be an attack and she could barely move). They weren't here yet, probably dealing with their own dinner and work, when the knock came on the door. She noticed that Nova was on alert. She wouldn't be for Sean, but she would for anyone else. She slowly got there to open, with the gun in her and, and smiled when she saw her guest.

"Ash, come on in," she said with a smile. "How are you?" she closed the door and locked it, before going back to the computer. She wrote Sean an email about her visitor to avoid any problems, before shutting everything down. "Sorry about that. I get bored and the computer is pretty much the only thing I have."

"I'm not surprised. Being cooped up like this must be driving you nuts. But not much longer, right?" Ash perched near Savannah and grinned widely. "I come bearing gossip. Eliot's in love with April. Apparently, he was serenading her on Friday night. Isn't that the most adorable thing you've ever heard?"

Nick had been pretty easy to get information out of, once Ash had started asking the right questions. She'd ignored Eric's shushing in favor of vicarious love. "It's so sweet. I wish my bestie hadn't been gay," Ash sighed.

"The due date is June 7th, so a little over a month, and June can't come too soon. I can tell you that much." Savannah had never been the impatient type, but doing nothing was killing her.

She smiled at little at the 'news'. "Eliot was in love with April in January. I even told him so. I think I freaked him out, but yeah I knew," she said, laughing. Even in here, she found out before anyone else. "I didn't know about the seranading, but they should possibly stop acting like they are fourteen and get on with the marriage. She's already thirty and he's basically ancient. I don't know when they will have these babies." It was absurd that anyone would wait so much to have a family.

Savannah frowned. "Your bestie? What are we talking about now? Or who, I should say?"

"Maybe so, but April said they were only friends. Now that's changed and it's so cute!" Ash loved love. "Can they even get married? I mean, we're in hiding and don't exist as ourselves outside the ranch," she said. Then, she giggled, "The babies will probably be all grumpy-faced like Eliot."

Ash was still smiling, and her ponytail swung happily when asked about Calvin. "Calvin. He was my second BFF when I was in college. For a while, I was totally crushing on him. I even made a move, but he turned out to be gay. Sad for me, good on the men, because Calvin is way hot and a great guy. I ended up dating his primary BFF and my primary BFF's brother, Rusty, for a while - that's how I got into gaming and some other nerdy things. But I taught Rusty how to dress, so I'd call it even."

Savannah smiled, but cute was a word she associated with kids, and neither April or Eliot were kids. She might used adorable for G, but that was mostly to annoy him. "I got married with a Catholic priest and a minister. Vance celebrated Jenna's wedding since he's licensed. It might not be their real names in the license, but yes, they can get married."

She looked horrified. "Why would you even say that? There are enough bad things without wishing those children to be ill tempered. They'd have a hard time fitting in." Even more considering that the four oldest were all a few months apart, would grow up together and were family.

Savannah was trying to follow what she was saying, but she was getting a headache. She'd blame the pregnancy for having to think about that statement more than once. "I'm sorry, but I thought the concept of a best friend is that there is only one."

"Oh, good. We lose out on so many other things, I'd hate for a real marriage to be lost, too."

Ash was taken aback by Savannah's horror. "Um, kidding? I was making a joke. You know, ha-ha, Eliot's got a scowly face. Not that he's had it in, like, weeks and weeks now. I didn't say I wanted them to be 'ill-tempered' or wish anything bad on them." Why would anyone think that? Discomfort enfolded her.

"No, you can have lots of best friends. They're the people you love and trust the most," Ash said. It was becoming quite clear that she wasn't going to find someone like that on this ranch.

"We can definitely have weddings," she said laughing. "We can have plenty of things if we want. We just need to get creative. I plan to have a baptism for these kids." She still had to figure out how to christen two when Vance wanted people to think that there was only one.

"People that scowls are usually not the most friendly. People like smiles," she said with her own smile on. "Hopefully, they'll be as friendly as April and make plenty of friends. You know if they ever decide to have children," she added with a sigh. "I've been telling her that she's getting old for a year now."

Her frown got bigger. "I... I'm not sure that's how it works. You can have lots of friends. I had a lot on the cheer squad, but only one can be best, because that means more than anyone else. If you trust a lot of people the same, then they aren't best, they are just like everyone else." She smiled. "Then you have other relationships. There are things that I'd only tell Marty, things that I'd only tell G, some only to Sam. I love and trust them all, but there's definitely an order. Then again, I couldn't imagine trusting anyone the way I trust Marty."

"Maybe they don't want children. Wrong world, bad situation. But I like babies, so here's hoping," Ash said.

"I'd hope you trusted your husband the most. He's your husband." Unless this was one of those things her 'small-minded, hick upbringing' made her "wrong" again. "Anyway. You can have your one best friend and I'll stick to my several, and we'll both be happy."

She looked at her watch. She was to the point she should stop forcing cheerfulness and go. "I'm gonna take off. The rec center awaits."

"I'm pretty sure that April wants them." She had no idea about Eliot, but if April knew how to deal with people, she'd get what she wanted. "Besides, it's not like it's so hard to have them with birth control not working."

Savannah chuckled. "Maybe, maybe not. I don't know. My mother had her best friend and her husband. They happened to be the same person for me." She nodded. "That's a good compromise."

She sighed again. "I wish I could go, but you should enjoy yourself." She got up slowly. "Let me get the door for you." After that she would email Sean and and she could sit for the rest of the night.
