RP: April and Vance
Who:April and Vance
Where:Leon's office
When: Mars 19
Summary:April goes to see the Director

She'd received the email that the Director wanted to see her in the morning, and didn't wast any time in going down to his office. She knocked and waited to be let in and took a seat as he offered her one.

"What was it you wanted to speak to me about, Director?" she asked.

Leon waited for Kepner to arrive. It was still quiet in the office. The noise level wouldn't go up until lunch and he didn't plan on being here today, at least for part of it.

"Please, sit down," he said pleasantly, giving her time to do so. Formalities were there for a reason and often made unpleasant situations better, even if he didn't expect problems today. "There are two things that I wanted to discuss with you. First, those eye implants. We should have them in the next few days. You can schedule the procedure for Thursday or Friday if Spencer doesn't have anything that requires his immediate attention." With the cattle moves, he didn't think so, but one never knew with Spencer.

"I will ask you again. Do you feel comfortable doing this and monitoring him? No one would blame you if you didn't. It's not your job," he said. "I won't be assigning him anywhere until we know that he's not suffering from side effects, and while I'm sure that you will do your best to check, but ultimately it's his responsibility to speak up if something is wrong."

April waited for the Director to finish and she was sure Eliot would be delighted that the implants were coming now.

"I've been reading up on what needs doing, and yes, I believe I can do it. The monitoring him won't be an issue at all, I'll know if there is a problem whether he speaks up or not." She really didn't understand how others could have a problem reading him when it was so easy for her.

"I'll let Eliot know that they're on their way, I'm know he'll be pleased to hear it."

"You said there were two things?"

"As I said, I'm not asking you for miracles. If he doesn't speak up, he doesn't speak up." He had no room for grown men who like to act like children. If you could solve a problem, you spoke up. If you couldn't, you didn't.

Leon nodded. "I hope you're right." He got up at the question and put on a CD rather loudly before going to sit next to her. He leaned forward. "You have had some time with that research and this case raised a question. From your initial view, if someone didn't know about this, would they pick it up from a normal blood test. The machine didn't seem to see the difference when I tried it, but people can see things machines don't. Would a doctor in an ER know if we had an emergency?"

April could argue that there was more to what Eliot didn't say than to what he did say, that listening to the silences and the grunts was more important than listening to his words, but she said nothing because she didn't expect the Director to understand, or care about such things. She'd make sure that Eliot was safe, that was what was most important to her.

She watched him put the music on and listened hard as he whispered out his question. It was a rather simple one to answer for her though. "No, they wouldn't," she said confidently. "Our blood looks the same as everyone else's."

"Even with a DNA scan, which an ER wouldn't do, there isn't anything that stands out at first glance. Though we do seem to share a genetic marker, but again, that's nothing that the ER would pick up on."

Leon thought so after the few discussions they had about the subject, but it was good to have confirmation for future emergency. "Very well, Doctor. Thank you for your time. I hope you have a good day."
