RP: President's Day Salute to America
Who: Open (put your tags up)
Where: The club
When: February 18, 2012
Summary: They prepare for another Saturday night
Unlike what some might think, Brian was happy to be an American. As shitty as things got in the country, he knew that as a gay man in the late 80s and 90s, he would have had it worse in a lot of other countries. For that reason, he didn't mind turning the club into red, white and blue for the night. In fact, it was pretty cheap. Catalogs had plenty of patriotic stuff, especially for classrooms, flags, fringe garlands, bunting, candles, and they could reuse the decorations for various holidays. No, Brian was just fine with this. What he didn't get was the military theme.
Savannah and Sean had been the most excited and Savannah had started on the costumes about a month ago, and every part of the night was carefully planned, a lot more than any other night. They opened at 7:30 and there was canned music until it was 8:00 or 20:00 as Savannah insisted saying with a giggle every time they talked about tonight.
It was up to Brian to open the night. "Ladies and gentlemen, please rise for our flag." Sean had found a recording of Stars and Stripes forever. Tyra held the flag and was escorted by the rest of the band in their military costumes. They had mixed Stars and Stripes to go into the national anthem, which they played live. After that, it was the strangest mix of patriotic, country and 40s music that he had ever heard of.
He wasn't surprised that for once even people like Hanna and Callen stayed for a much longer time. However, it was strange to see Savannah hug Vance at once point, or the rest of kids joke with the man like they were friends. It was even stranger watch grown men and a woman stand to attention when the Armed Force Medley was played. He was particularly surprised when Callen Jr. stood up for the Air Force anthem. The man looked half dead, but he still got up like it was expected. Brian would never get these military types.
Still, everyone here seemed happy, with the exception of Hanna who looked ready to kill, but at least it wasn't their fault. In the end, this was the best they could do, and that was all that mattered, because he knew what tonight meant to the people putting on the show.
