When there are things to be celebrated, they should be celebrated.
Derek's words came back to haunt John several times a day ever since the weekend when he'd remembered the upcoming holiday. Okay, so he figured a holiday for couples wasn't likely to be celebrated the same way by Brian Kinney as it was by the rest of the world. But, John could admit he had a bit of a romantic streak. Hadn't he been the one to tell Brian he was looking for a soulmate?
And, whether Brian was that soulmate or not, they had something a lot more real than John had ever imagined having in his future. It was good. It deserved to be celebrated.
But, for all that romantic streak in his head and his dreams, when it came to practical expressions of it, well, John was an almost nineteen year old man whose previous experience with romance was an illicit trip to Mexico that almost got everyone killed. He had no idea what to do for Brian that was special and not something Brian would roll his eyes over, something that meant something without being hopelessly sappy and stupid.
By Tuesday he still had no idea and was thinking maybe he could just find a way to offer up sex in a new and meaningful way that would please and surprise Brian.
Basically, he was clueless on the normality of romantic rituals.
Rose petals strewn in a path from the door to a waiting Brian, though? That he could recognize. Even if he was a little amused at the rose petals that he would have dismissed himself as too cheesy for Brian, but which were just the right touch for him. "Well, hello there, Adonis." John grinned as he tossed his bag on the couch and went to join Brian. "You haven't seen my lover anywhere have you? Tall, dark, and sexy as hell with a sarcastic wit you can't miss?"
