RP: Nick/Anyone
Who: Nick/Anyone who might be looking
When: 1-21-12, afternoon
Where: Out in the field, on the farm
Summary: Sam should've known better.

Nick woke up at the decent hour of noon on Saturday. He loved the weekends. After cleaning the bathroom and eating lunch, he threw on his jacket and told April that he was going outside to practice.

He waved at Eliot and Tim on his way into the pasture, past all the cattle standing around munching hay. It was windy outside, but it didn't bother Nick as he trudged further and further away from the main buildings into the wide-open fields. He finally decided on a spot where he could still see the houses and buildings but wouldn't be bothered.

Folding himself into the crunchy brown grass, Nick started practicing making tiny things again. Proportional ants, flies, and moths. Getting them to form took concentration but he could do it. Getting them to move at that size made it feel like he'd been smacked in the head by a baseball bat.

Of course, as time passed, Nick got bored, and the animals got bigger. He let his mind work through zoo animals, keeping them formed for as long as possible as he added more varieites. Soon, surrounding him were elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, gorillas, penguins, polar bears, and seals. They wandered around for a bit before the carnage erupted. Making realistic looking blood and guts took as much concentration as the little guys.

Nick eventually gave up on the animals and went to design more fun things, like tanks. He worked hard to get it right from the movies and pictures he'd seen. He got two of them up and then wondered if he could make a fighter jet, too. Excited and popping off small uncontrolled bursts of light, Nick went to work on the jet.

Once crafted, the jet took flight, flying low over the field as far as he could make it, towards the houses and back in his direction. He put the tanks in motion, trying to make them aim at the jet as it circled the range. It was hard making it all work at once; his mind divided between the activities as well as keeping the light-creations appearing solid and exacting. It helped that it was so cool.

"Come on, guys, there isn't much time before you're blasted by the jet," Nick urged on the tanks. The tanks trundled and swung the turret-thing. The jet circled back and released a barage of light-bullets one of them. Too bad he couldn't make noise, except with his mouth. Which he did. "Pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop, clink clink clink, ping."

Covering a hand over his mouth, he turned into the fighter pilot. "Enemy engaged. Swinging back around to take fire a second time." The jet banked by the houses again and came towards him and the tanks. "Targeting..."

The jet fighter released another barage of faux bullets at the tank he'd previously shot at, with more sound effects. "Pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop!" Nick worked to make it appear as if the tank was really getting struck.

As the fighter flew past towards the open field again, Nick had the second tank get a bead on the jet. The tank fired off a shell. Nick realized, as the shell sailed through the air, he'd forgotten there'd be kickback on the tank. He'd fix that next go around.

The shell flew with trails of fire behind it and missed the jet as it maneuvered quickly. Nick's hand went over his mouth to play the pilot again. "Ha-ha! You suck ass, tank jockeys." He made the jet bank and head back in his direction. This power rocked!

April was taking a walk when suddenly the plane arrived from no where. Her first instinct was to want to duck, but even from a long distance away she knew that a plane like that was supposed to be loud. The lack of noise was a clear give away to what was going on and thinking there might be trouble April went off searching for Nick.

She found him talking to Sam and was relieved that it was just the two of them and not a lot of upset people. This might not have been what she'd meant when she said stay away from the houses, but at least it didn't seem to have upset people the same way the soldiers have.

The comment about her not cooking was the first she heard when she came, and it had her chuckling, especially when coupled with the face Nick was making. "That will take a bit more than some ants, but outside is appreciated," she said with a smile. "Your displays can be a bit startling."

She hated the fact that Nick had had to do things like that, and she couldn't help but to wonder how much of his condition was determined by what he'd been taught to do. She didn't say that though, there wasn't anything that she could do about it anyway. Instead she looked at the tanks and plane when he made one of the tanks blow up. If there had been sound she would have ducked, it was certainly an impressive display.

Nick turned and smiled sunnily at April when she spoke up. Then he got shifty and leaned in to whisper, "The dancing girls don't count, do they?"

The tank stopped exploding and made an ashen lump on the grass before Nick banished it. The jet kept circling back and forth, while the remaining tank idled. "Oh, hey, Sam, do you want to see the black light thing, even though we're not at training?"

Sam pretended not to hear about the dancing girls, although he was still thinking about Morgan and the prostitutes. That was not something that he wasn't looking forward to, and there was no way that G wasn't coming with him, although with Nick, it would probably take about five minutes.

"Sure, you can show me the black light," he said.

April really didn't like those dancing girls, not so much because Nick had them but because he kept losing control of them. Then again if it kept him from needing prostitutes for a while longer, then they certainly fulfilled a purpose. She didn't answer out loud, just shook her head to confirm that those were still okay, then waited for him to display his black light. If she was right it would be no different from when he accidentally made everything go dark in the house.

The black light he'd been practicing on in his room, too, making thing disappear that weren't the whole house. And so with half a mind still on his jet and tank, he engulfed April in a black bubble. Then, he looked at Sam all expectant-puppy like.

Sam didn't even look at Nick. It was all about the light and how they could use it. "I guess it can help if we want to hide in the dark, but not during the day. They'll see something black.

He thought some more. "I guess it's good to blacken their view, but that's only going to help if you can do it to a large number without interfering with our view. Or as I said, if you need to hide at night in the shadows. Otherwise, stick with other shapes."

April popped back into view as the light disappated. "The other shapes are more fun anyway," Nick said. He went back to making his jet and tank play war on each other. "Although, Eliot can't see them."

"Don't forget to make sure that you train both on realism and small objects, and now I'll leave you to it." He clapped the boy's back and then nodded in April's direction. "Bye."
