RP: Jenna and Savannah
Who:Jenna and Savannah
Where:The Farm
When: December 17
Summary: Jenna asks Savannah to be her matron of honor

She couldn't believe that she was about to do this. In truth she was nearly afraid to, because with Savannah there would be discussions. A lot of them. She'd talked to her father already and let him know the date, but she'd rethought the uniform. It was a nice idea, and if they'd decided to wait until after the baby was born she'd gone for it, but she knew what the pregnancy uniforms looked like and they were tents, not uniforms.

She might not care all that much about the perfect wedding, but she didn't want to look hideous either. So she was stuck with a dress - and that meant Savannah would likely have opinions. She'd probably not approve of not white, not pink and not long. She was thinking possibly blue, maybe ivory or silver, but not virgin white when she most definitely wasn't a virgin.

She could take that discussion when it came, however, and now she first of all needed to ask her to be the maiden of honor, and to do that she needed to go and talk to her.

She waited until after the morning meeting, cornering her before she could go anywhere. "Savannah, could I talk to you? I have something important to ask you, in private."

Savannah was with Nova at her side, like usually nowadays. The dog and the gun were the two things that were never far, while she kept people far away. She hadn't really talked to that many people since getting here, and she'd decided that she liked it that way. It was less exhausting.

She was surprised when of all the people here, Jenna was the one approaching her. "Sure," she answered. "Let's go-" She shrugged. "Somewhere, plenty of empty rooms." She walked to the back of the house with Nova still at her side. It wasn't until they were in the room alone that she spoke up. "What's going on?"

Jenna waited until they were alone, not failing to notice the lack of...well Savannah in the way she moved and spoke. She hadn't given it much thought, but now that she did she did, Savannah hadn't been herself since she got her.

She thought she understood. She hadn't been herself for months, not since getting here really, and Savannah had never killed before the attack. Naturally she would be affected. She hoped that her news would cheer her up.

"Dom and I have decided to get married," she said. "We're having a small ceremony on the seventh, and I wanted to ask you if you want to be my maid of honor."

Savannah stood there for a moment. A small ceremony that had no value, no civil or religious impact, no social one, all the reasons why she had made sure that they got married sooner rather than later. She couldn't understand why they were even bothering, but then her manners kicked in and she smiled.

"Congratulations," she said, stepping closer for a hug. She didn't linger, she knew how weird Jenna was with hugs. "Of course, I'll be the maid of honor. You tell me what you want to do, and we'll get it arranged. We can ask Brian to help. He was great with my wedding. The seventh of? January? That doesn't give us a lot of time, but I'm sure we can manage to get what you like. Do you have a theme in mind? If you do, just go with it. I really tried to fight the Disney theme because everyone was making fun of me, but in the end, nothing else made me happy, so you might as well go with that first reaction."

That wasn't the reaction she had expected, but given circumstances perhaps it wasn't strange. It was definitely easier, though it made her worry for Savannah too.

"My first reaction was that I wanted to be in uniform," she said with a smile. "Then we decided on January and the uniforms for pregnant women are horrible. Think big wide tents add a bit of fabric and you're close, so now I'm thinking a simple dress. I don't want big, just a small ceremony to mark the occasion, something that's us and not a cover. Something we can tell our child."

"There might not be that much time, but by keeping it small it should be enough. We'll go shopping for dresses and take it from there. See what we can find, how does that sound?" she asked. It would be a limited selection because of where they were, but they'd find something.

Savannah nodded. "It's going to be us, no matter what, but you can still have big with just us. Still I know what you mean. Not... my wedding," she said, chuckling.

"That sounds fine. You'll look beautiful no matter what you pick, I'm sure of it," she said. "Anyone else in the bridal party? This way we know how many people to coordinate, and I can speak with Brian for the food. Obviously we can't do the catering like at the base, but there has to be something in Prescott we can use. We can even buy it and keep it in trays." She waved a hand. "Don't worry about it, we'll find a way. You need to pick the dress and your cake. Those are the things that matter. We'll match the rest."

Jenna chuckled a bit. "Your wedding was right for you," she said. "It was what made you happy."

"No just the two of you," she said with a smile. "Like I said, small and intimate." She knew this must make no sense to Savannah, but she was better at accepting it than she thought even though Jenna suspected that had more to do with what she must be going through than anything else.

She smiled. "So we'll find a date to go and pick the dresses and the cake and take it from there," she said. Hesitating for a while, she then decided that she might as well.

"I haven't really been myself lately," she said. "Ever since I came back from my tour I've been...off. It's impossible for you to know, of course, you didn't know me before, but-" She shrugged. "That stuff changes you, and I haven't really wanted to talk about it about it at all even though it's been months since I came back."

She paused for a while, before going off. "I'm not going to ask, or make you talk about what happened that night, it would be hypocritical for me to since I don't talk about it myself. If you want to talk about it though, I'm willing to listen. Or we can go and shoot at something and pretend everything is alright," she added with a small smile.

She grinned. "Yes, it was, big, pink, exactly how I always wanted it." Brian had been a sweetheart, and hadn't even insulted her too much, and those insults were nothing more than a way for him to connect. She'd learned that much.

"All right, I guess that makes it even easier in terms of clothing. Dress them in a blue suit or a rented tux and we're done. You can always find a place that rents tuxedos. It might be the best way." She was already thinking about where they could go, but she'll have to burrow someone's computer and get names.

She looked up when Jenna went on. She might have appreciated the candor a few weeks ago, but now she had no interest in sharing. "There's nothing to talk about. We did what we had to do, right? And I don't need to shoot at anything for some time. I'm quite good at it. Sam did a really impressive job at teaching me. I can hit the middle of a forehead in the dark with a rifle while people are moving without ever missing. We can just focus on finding the right dress for now."

She liked the smile that she got for the first part, but realized quickly that she'd overstepped the line when offering to talk. So focusing on the wedding it was then.

"Right, so focusing on the dress it is," she said, backing off. "I'm assuming next week will be filled with Christmas preparations, but if possible we can see if there is time left over for us to go looking for a dress. We can use Dom's computer to do a little research first," she said. "Or possibly Eric's."

"I think a suit will do, I'm thinking a short dress for myself rather than a long one," she said. "It shouldn't be too difficult to arrange everything."

"I'm not sure what's going on with Christmas," she admitted. Their plans were gone, their food and furniture was gone, their gifts and ornaments were gone. There wasn't much to prepare as far as she was concerned. "We should be getting the furniture and cable. We can set up our homes at least."

She nodded. "We can search tomorrow. Most places are likely to close on Sunday around here, or open only for half a day. We might as well do it on Monday if you want, get a jump on things if Sam is free."

Savannah shrugged. "You might find a tux to rent, but not a nice suit to buy. We'll just wait and see. We can send Eric and Dom for that, but they can't come to the dress store with us. He's not allowed to see the dress," she said with a smile. "I don't care how small. Some things are tradition."

It seemed wrong that there wouldn't be Christmas, not because she cared too much about traditions, but because the team needed something to bring their spirits up. Something to gather around.

"Monday sounds good," she said. "I'll talk to dad and see what he says." She'd ask him about Christmas too, see what he thought.

She chuckled on the mention of traditions. "Alright, he won't see the dress," she agreed. "Let's just hope we can find a decent one."

"Yes, I'll check my busy schedule, but I'm pretty sure that I can make time for it," she joked.

Savannah hugged her again. "We'll find something perfect for you; I just know it, and thank you for asking. It means a lot." Even if she still didn't get the point of this wedding, the fact that Jenna had asked her to be the Maid of Honor meant something. "Come on, let's go back before they think we disappeared."
