RP: Kensi, Nell
Who: Kensi, Nell
Where: Nell's house
When: December 9th
Summary: Kensi goes to check on Nell.

Kensi had decided to go and visit Nell as she'd mentioned to Renko earlier. The shopping trip had been good and she'd gotten everything she thought she'd need on the first pass. The houses were pretty utilitarian and she didn't hold out much hope for the furniture and therefore had decided to stock up on blankets, cushions, candles and anything else she could use to feel homier, picking the more expensive ones as Brooke would. They'd needed pots and pans of course but she'd taken guidance from some of the others here - it wasn't like she or her cover had a clue how to cook anything. Sheets were next and she bought luxurious ones again, everything that Kensi wouldn't normally have gotten if she was shopping as herself.

She'd also picked up some more clothes. They weren't designer but they fit well, were more elegant than some of the utilitarian things she had been wearing on the base, and she could finally look at maternity clothes and pick comfortable things without having to worry about looking pregnant in front of soldiers. She had a good winter coat already but she picked out another one too just in case and a few toiletries.

Once she'd gotten back to the ranch, she hung up some of her new clothes in the wardrobe, put her toiletries in the bathroom, made herself a sandwich and then slept for a while on her roll bed. She really wouldn't miss those when they got their new beds delivered.

After that, she pulled on her jacket and walked over to Nell's house where Troy let her in when she knocked. She went through to where Nell was and smiled when she saw her. "Hey," She took a seat on the floor. "This no-furniture thing is going to get annoying soon - Thankfully they ordered things today. How are you doing?"

Nell had done absolutely nothing all day.

Okay, that wasn't strictly true. She'd set up a nice padded nest of a couple bedrolls with Troy's help. Then shed'd made out a list of things they'd need for the house and given him a bit of the cash she'd been squirreling away since March. Then she'd spent some time testing how much of her strength she had back with her power -- not as much as she would like, but enough -- while she was still vertical. And then she'd finally lay down for the rest of the day.

So, it was accomplishing nothing compared to her usual standards, but the chance to be flat on her back and not moving or on the cold floor directly was bliss. Nell slept though until just past the early winter's dusk and then didn't get any further than sitting up and dragging her bag over with her good foot until she could get her computer out without stretching too far. She wanted to get some real time in checking chatter and news reports. What little she'd looked at on the drive hadn't really registered through the pain. When Troy showed Kensi in, Nell looked up with her usual smile.

"Hey! I'm doing alright. Better with a full day not driving over bumps. Furniture will just be icing when it arrives. How are you? Three days in a car couldn't have been fun for you or the baby. Sean was telling me last night about the three of them singing most of the time."

Kensi chuckled, shaking her head. She did feel somewhat bad for the other people in her car because she hadn't been as upbeat as she knew she could be. She liked fun, she liked having fun but Rob being in the car with her had made her more withdrawn, especially after their first argument. She hadn't wanted to provoke him into having another when Brian had even chipped in on Round One and so she'd spent her time in the car driving, sleeping or reading a magazine.

"I bet him and Troy are both still thinking I'm completely miserable and no fun whatsoever," she confided with a small smile. "Honestly? It was like going on a college road trip. And Brian and Rob weren't really contributing to being the supervising adults but hey, there's a surprise. I was just tired and sore and cranky but really, they should try being that pregnant and trying to find a comfortable position."

"Has April been in to see you? How long till you're back up on your feet?" she asked, wanting to avoid the topic of Hetty for as long as possible. Kensi's thoughts had turned to her several times over the three days and even though Hetty had been different here, more distant, she knew it wasn't the same for Nell. They had lived in the same apartment and had had more interaction, if anything, since Nell arrived.

"It's Sean," Nell said with a chuckle. "As long as he has music, he's good. Besides, you had John to balance out the adult side," she added with a laugh. It did sound like they had the fun car. Although, Nell was just as happy for the more sedate environment the Director's presence in their car engendered. Resting hadn't been easy, but it had been easier than if there had been singing. The quiet hum of official conversations was almost a lullaby of it's own.

"I don't imagine it was too comfortable for you." Nell knew she wasn't the only one who had more reason than some to be uncomfortable on that ride. She wasn't sure how Jenna had managed. Kensi and Savannah probably had been at varying states of discomfort as well.

"Not today. I haven't seen anyone today. But, she was in the car with us most of the trip. It's broken ribs and a sprained ankle, though. So, it's really just a matter of time for them to heal." Nell shrugged one shoulder. "Several weeks, at least. But, I've figured out how to work it into our covers and there's plenty of work to be done that won't require me to be too mobile too soon. I'll be good to go before your little one arrives," she teased.

"True. I sound like a bitch for moaning about it, it's just three days is a long time when you realize you're stuck in a car," she said with a small smile. "And nobody needs to hear me sing unless I've had a couple of beers. Which I'm not allowed because of this little one."

She shook her head. "I don't know how Jenna must have felt. None of us are showing that much but it still feels strange. Of course, my baby is definitely a relation to Callen if we weren't sure before. All of the explosions and shooting the other night got him kicking away for the first time," she explained, her hand laying on her stomach.

"I hope so, I'm not due till the end of April," Kensi arched an eyebrow. "I you need anything, you let me know, alright? I'm more than happy to help you out."

"No, not really. You sound like a pregnant woman who's not normally one to sing in the car on a good day, let alone a three day run for her life. If it made them feel better and stop focusing on what happened, that's the important part, right?" Nell felt a little better, actually, knowing Troy had been with Sean and Alexis and, apparently, relaxing. She'd worried after their conversation at the safehouse when he'd tried to apologize for Hetty.

"After three days, probably not happy," she said, chuckling again. Laughter was still painful and she put a hand to her ribs when Kensi's next comment brought a real laugh out. "Sounds like the Callen genes, alright. Good thing he has you for a mom. You're used to dealing with the insane brilliance that is a Callen in the field."

Nodding, Nell smiled softly. "I know, Kensi. And I will." She was a little surprised, honestly, at the number of people offering help and concern. She hadn't had as much contact with the team because of her separate duties for Vance. "I just need to keep busy, right now, without overdoing. Try not to dwell on things..." She swallowed, but refused to crack. "Thinking about how annoying it is not to be able to raise my arms too high isn't going to help much, right?"

"Yeah, it is. I'm glad they didn't seem too upset," she admitted. "I kind of thought they might be. I don't know how I would have dealt with all of that."

"Definitely the Callen genes. I should have known. As for me as a mom, we'll see. I'm not exactly the most laid-back member of the team, the kid could be a complete hot-head," She said with a shake of her head, showing concern when Nell touched her ribs. "Hey, easy there. No making things worse."

"I hope you're not just saying that," she said honestly. When Nell mentioned dwelling on things, Kensi's lips thinned as she bit down on them inside and she looked down for a moment. "I'm sorry- About Hetty. I barely even saw her here compared to how it was at home but I know you probably saw even more of her than before," She looked at Nell and tried to force a smile when she mentioned her arms. "As long as you can type, you're good, right? I'm sure Eric would love to help you out."

"I guess we all have our ways of dealing. They sing. Some train. Others work." Nell didn't think it took rocket science to figure out which the two of them did, either. Shaking her head, she hand-waved the concern. "It's okay. A little pain is a small price to pay for having something to laugh about." They all would need to laugh whenever they could in the coming weeks, she thought. The new work was just beginning and there'd be time to mourn when they rested.

"I'm not. Promise." Nodded, she smiled softly and put her hand out for Kensi's. "She would have been more hands on if she could. There was something keeping her back that she couldn't really talk about." Nell chuckled. "Possibly too much. I'm broken, not an invalid. I should probably get back to work, though, a little slow going. Thanks for coming over, Kensi. I mean it."
