The work she needed to do was definitely slowing down. She'd done what she could for everyone, and was now checking up on those with major injuries again.
When Eliot came she hadn't expected him to physically park her in a chair. The surprise was likely what did it. That and knowing that there was no where to run with Eliot there. He wouldn't let her go, he wouldn't stop asking until she answered - just as she wouldn't with him.
"I'm-" She struggled to find anything that was true. "keeping busy," she settled on. It was the closest that she could come at this point. "There are still things to do, I can't feel- I can't allow myself to think just yet." And if tears were running down her cheeks, Eliot at least wouldn't see them.
She had to keep busy. Derek had let her slip, probably because he was so tired, or maybe because she'd promised to talk to him later. She didn't think Eliot would be as easy, so she said the one thing that she thought he might understand. "There are too many people around here. I can't do this now, not here."
