Re: Robert and G
"No one walks all over me," G returned icily, arms unfolding as he stopped leaning against the door. It didn't matter if it was his brother saying it, or trying to prevent it in his way. G Callen was no one's doormat anymore.
"I tried to build it thirty seven times before I was eighteen and again half a dozen times after. I survived without it because I had to. Your son doesn't have to do that and if he has nothing else, he will have me there to make sure he never has to go through what I did. No child born to this family will go through that as long as I live to prevent it." That was a promise no one and no thing would ever force him to break. Ever. The next generation of the Callen family would never have reason to doubt themselves the way he did if he had any say in the matter at all. It was the one duty as head of the family he would take on with relish, all joking with Sam aside. "No, you need to understand that this isn't about me or you. It's about a little boy who's going to be born into a world that wants him dead and the best thing you can give him is a father's love. You don't need your fancy cars or exorbitant bank account for that. You just need to be able to be that safe haven for him, to be able to tell him truthfully that you're glad he's alive. And if you can't do that, no charade in the world is going to make him happy. Your mother wasn't a fake parent. She might not have been your birth mother, but she loved you as much or more than one. That isn't fake."
G's jaw clenched and for the first time he had a real urge to haul off and hit his brother. "It does matter if she gets hurt because she matters." Taking a deep breath, he stopped, pulled back. "You know what, let's just stop. I will keep your secret because you're my brother and you deserve that much loyalty. But, I will never agree or approve of the way you are treating someone I care about. So, let's just stop this now. You can go back out and pretend. I can go out and get some work done. And we don't spend the holiday arguing over something that is apparently going to always be a sore point between us. I for one intend to welcome your son into this family like the gift he is, other people's perceptions be damned, and I truly hope you can find a way to be happy not just for your son's sake but for yours because Kensi isn't the only one who deserves not to be hurt by this. You deserve to have a bit of comfort and care for yourself and I just can't see how you're going to get that if you're lying to your own family."
