RP: Eliot/Auggie
Who: Eliot/Auggie
When: 11-23-11
Where: The flat
Summary: Eliot has questions for Auggie about his past.

Eliot was rather unsubtle in his abrupt waylaying of the fourth roommate. "You were with the CIA. What did you do there?" he asked as the corn bread baked. "Before and after you were blinded."

Eliot had been having a bad day. The new OSP setup irked him. Getting the feeling that Auggie didn't want to be paired with him for advanced training irked him. Working that day's Braille lesson irked him. Being irked irked him. And he think he finally pinpointed why he was in a sour mood.

Auggie was adjusting, as much as one could adjust to finding themselves in another dimension with people they didn't know and forced into a routine you didn't like, and living with people who perhaps meant well were still underfoot. Still he was doing his best, trying to be a good housemate and talking with people who he would have to work with, getting to know them as best he could.

He was reading when Eliot went right ahead and asked him about his time at the CIA. "The direct approach," He said with a small smile. "I can appreciate that - Before coming here I was head of tech ops for my division." He told Eliot, still finding it strange that people just knew what he was and what he'd done. People he hadn't out right told, or who worked with him at the CIA. "And before that I was a field operative."

"Tech ops. Computer stuff?" Eliot asked, clarifying. "What did you do? Did you have to learn it? Or did you already know computers?" He took off and tucked his Oakleys in his shirt pocket. He'd been straining his vision today and it had given him a dull headache behind his eyes. Another irk.

"Yep, computers mostly other tech too though." Auggie said nodding. He could expand upon it if Eliot wanted, but it could all be summed up as computer stuff, it was easier that way for everyone involved.

"I had to learn how to use it again, it's different from when you can see what you're doing than not, as I'm sure you're learning." Auggie told him, nodding slightly. He knew the transition could be a hard one to make and he was lucky he'd had the time to do it and still keep a job. "But I knew computers already, that was what got me recruited in the first place."

And there it was, the answer. "I had to be taught to use the damned cell phone, and that's when I could still see." Eliot's voice was a growl of self-disgust and anger. "God damned eyeball melting powers." He stomped to the fridge to get a beer. Field support from the ops center, that's what he was supposed to do now - only he didn't know how to do any of that because he wasn't a damned computer geek and he knew for damned sure he wouldn't be listened to if he suggested how to do anything in the field.

He'd told Morgan he was a fighter when this power first blinded him. That's what he did, what he was, and what he still could do. If one person told him to start learning a new skill set, he'd probably snap.

"And level two Braille sucks," he declared for good measure.

Auggie chuckled and nodded, he knew plenty of people that were technologically challenged, he'd never been one of them, but he could understand the frustration of it all. He'd been on the opposite end of the teaching bit enough times to know. "From what I understand these powers aren't a walk in the park for anyone." Though perhaps Eliot more than any others, still he wasn't looking forward to dealing with his own power whatever it might end up being.

"The transition isn't an easy one, and I still have trouble with it sometimes, and it's been four years for me." He told him shrugging, Eliot might not be able to see the way he'd been able to in the past but Auggie thought some measure of sight was better than none. There were adjustments to make, but he didn't live his entire life in the dark either- and despite those thoughts he wasn't going to be the one to tell Eliot he should be grateful for what he still had, it wasn't his place and no one liked to hear those things.

"It is a pain." He agreed with a short laugh, "you get the hang of it eventually. I remember thinking I'd never understand it when I was first learning." He told him. "But you keep at it and you figure out the ways you need to adjust and at least that part of your life becomes easier."

Eliot grumbled, and grumbled some more, and a little more under his breath. Then he brought over a beer for Auggie with a "Thanks."

Auggie heard the grumbling but decided to let the man stew on his own, there was a whole world of strange going on there and Auggie wasn't going to step into it too easily.

"Sure, I guess - though not sure what it's for." He said shrugging. "Was that all you wanted to know or was that it?"

"That was it," Eliot replied. "I'm going to beat on level two for a while. Hope they get your stuff set up so you can get back in the game."
