Where: The base
When: October 24, 2011
Summary: Sam is back to normal and does what he does best: train people.
Sam had stopped bothering with doors. They were kept rigorously shut to protect G and Sean, but he had no need for them. He could just walk through walls and did so on a frequent basis now. If it weren't for that, he might have not even realized that he had regained solidity. He'd never been so happy to bang against a wall. Literally!
Of course, it happened when he was alone. Not a surprise with the schedule they kept. The only time that he'd have had company, it would have been in the middle of the night. Instead, it had happened right after advanced training had started. Sam would go some days, but he found it too hard to stand there and do nothing. He couldn't help, couldn't show anything, and worse of all, he couldn't lead people through the drills without being able to jump in to help if need be. G still needed to run the training and standing there watching over G's shoulder felt wrong on both a personal and professional level.
But he was corporeal again, which meant he could do more than watch. He put on comfortable clothes and a pair of boots and practically ran to the team center. He entered the pool quietly and stopped by next to G, just standing there with his arms crossed looking out at the people. "You're going to have to start working now," he said, without even looking at his partner. It's what they did and also if he looked at G, he might end up kissing his lover, so best to keep it professional.
"Sean, Jenna, front and center," he yelled, but when his children arrived there was a hint of a smile on his face. He didn't even care that there were in a public room with people present. He hugged both of them and pulled them closer. He really had missed touching them, which was absurd considering all the time he had spent away from them in the past. He winked at Sean and kissed Jenna's forehead. "All right, back to training, you two. We'll talk when we're done here."
Sam let them go before moving closer to the rest of the group, still careful not to look at G. "Vacation time is over, ladies and gentlemen. I'd ask if you've been training, but I know my partner and I know how good he is. I also know I'm better, so everyone in the pool, clothes on, get wet and come out. Let's go, people; let's move it." This was not something they would be doing alone, and he jumped in boots first before coming out from the water. "Everyone grab your gear. We're going to take a nice little run around the base. No, you don't get to dry yourself up and you don't get to bitch if it's cold. It ain't cold enough. Let's move out, double time."
He lead them out of the center, running through the streets of the base. About two miles in, he raised his arm as he stopped. "Find your partner, transfer your gear in one backpack, select only what you think you'd need on a mission. Ideally, the two hundred pounds of gear should turn into one hundred. When you're done, one of you picks up the backpack with what you need and leave the rest here. However, your partner is now injured and you are carrying the gear and your partner. I'll let you choose who's running and who's injured. Savannah, Jenna, and Kensi, keep going like you've been doing" Sam waited for them to shift things and then grabbed two backpacks, because he wasn't going to do this the easy way.
The running started again, he went another two miles, before stopping again. "Put your partner down and switch roles. We're going back." When they ran back, he kept the backpacks on. He needed to feel this as much as the hugging and touching. He needed to know that his body would still respond the way it was supposed to. He kept going until they returned to where all the extra gear was. He stopped again. "Good, people. Now pick up what you'd left here, and we go back to the pool." He didn't even think of finding a shortcut. Eight miles, some with additional wait was still not as much as people at this level should be able to do.
When they reached the center, he didn't go to the pool, but the certification area. He let them get in, and he could see them take their gear off and get comfortable, or at least most of them. Some were a bit suspicious, but then some people knew him. He waited just a little longer, then pulled out his gun and shot in the air. "If you don't have your gun in your hand, you're fucking dead, people. You don't rest because you get somewhere. You don't stop until you know you're safe or you're told that the mission is over. Now, figure out your gear, make sure that you have your things and returned what you took from your partner and then you can go home for a nice hot shower. Ladies and gentlemen, if you think this sucks, I assure you that this is just the beginning. As SEALs say, the only easy day was yesterday."
