"No, there are perks to being my partner," he said, chuckling. "Come on, before someone starts questioning why you get to go out without having to go through certification and a bunch of other stupid comments. There have been plenty of stupid comments."
He raised the car keys and jiggled them. "Let's go, and of course it's my treat." He opened the door for her, letting her go by first. The weather was still humid and hot, and even the daily rain wasn't enough to tamper the humidity. It was almost like being home. "I can't believe this weather at the end of September." He used the remote to open the car and went to the driver side. He couldn't remember a time in the past ten months that he left the base and not worried about the people with him. Not that he didn't worry about Emily, but it was different. "Chinese? Japanese? Thai? What do you want?" he asked, knowing that it would dictate the destination. "Unless we're really going on top of the tower. I'm not even sure what they have there, but we can be adventurous and figure it out."
