Eliot snorted. "Most of them are dickheads - I pretty much told them daily 'til I lost my sight, and even then that didn't stop me from saying it to the people who still deserve it."
Eliot took another swig of beer before turning slightly to face Harvey better, resting his arm on the back of the couch, beer dangling between his fingers. He adjusted his Oakleys on his nose. "They are crazy-paranoid about... well, everything. I think it's stupid. I think I told you before, they should certify and employ us so we don't get outright shot by this world's government, but then leave us the hell alone. Folks have been trying to kill me since '99 and I'm still here. I don't-- " Eliot paused and corrected himself, "--didn't need anyone to watch my ass."
He scowled some, because he did need people at least for now. It was one thing to voluntarily join a team, or do a job. Having a forced hand sucked balls.
"Shitty part is, is that it ain't gonna change. You get a little more freedom being an agent, but not much."
