Re: April and Savannah
"Yes, and then after you're done all of that, you go home and do what? Celebrate alone with a glass of wine?" she asked, with a chuckle. It sounded so much like what G and Marty talked about, but in the end, they were still lonely. "How are any of those accomplishment relevant when no one will even know who you are? You aren't there, and there's another doctor to do the work. People's lives go on, because you don't really matter to any of them, because they aren't your family."
Savannah listened and wondered if April was even more naive than her, or just trying to humor her. "Are they? And how old are they? Twenty, twenty-five, or are they old? How long have they been together? How many other relationship have they had? He divorced his wife, that's just-- Please, that's not a life, that's just settling for whoever is there. I was going to get married young. The me in this dimension was going to get married this July, to a boy I've known for almost a decade, and I'm sure they would have been together forever. My parents met in high school, they got married, and have never been with anyone else. Those are the real relationships."
She nodded. "Yea, I know, but I think too many people, men and women, are blinded by careers and money and forget that the important things are the people around us. It's raising children that will be proud of us and be good people. It's about family. Nothing is more important than that."
