Re: Spencer and Mike
“It’s not fair, but it’s human nature,” Spencer said, nodding at Mike. They were of a similar build and while Mike didn’t look quite as eccentric as he did, he could imagine people dismissing him quickly. “Even being a Doctor doesn’t help, nothing does, really. Except perseverance.”
Reid shrugged, putting the deck on the table and then making a card appear out of his empty hand. “I count cards, but I also know every statistic on every possible hand,” Spencer said with a shrug. “I’m the Mr Miyagi of poker.”
His eyes followed Mike’s and he couldn’t help doing his usual assessment of how Mike was dealing with it all, looking out for dangerous signs. “And I suppose you wouldn’t find most people who were at work today who wouldn’t rather be at home. Or anyone at home who wouldn’t rather be on holiday and anyone on holiday who wouldn’t rather be on holiday somewhere else,” Spencer chuckled and shrugged again. “I don’t mind being here, the work is interesting, there are people here I care about.”
Tilting his head a little he nodded slowly. “Would you like to talk about it?” He offered quietly. They were in the corner and no one was really paying attention to them, but he wouldn’t blame Mike at all if he had no desire to tell him why his situation was so complicated.
